Help with first install

Hey everyone, I'm new here and I'm attempting an ambitious (for me) project. Any help or tips would be greatly appreciated.

So here's my situation.

Essentially, I am hooking up a sub for use with my television in the basement. My question is mostly about the hook up between the amplifier and subwoofer, but I'll give you the other details as well.

So, for components, I have:

-Rockford Fosgate 10" Punch Subwoofer (RFZ1410) 4 Ohms/200 Watt
-Pyramid Gold Series Subwoofer Electronic Crossover (Model CR-66)
-Pyramid Power Amplifier (PB175) 240 Max Power Watts / 120W x 2 Channels
(I have two of these amplifiers, if needed.)

I also have a power supply that will output 25A at +12V, which I think is sufficient for a 200W sub.

Here's where my headache begins. I can't seem to find the right information I need on the internet so I figured I would ask in here...
I am thinking of a setup similar to this:
TV --> crossover --> amplifier --> sub
Would this work? Do I need the crossover? Is is beneficial in this application?
Also, am I even able to hook up my sub to a single amplifier? (Since it is 120W x 2 channels.) Would I need to hook up both amplifiers to the same sub?

Sorry guys, I am brand new at this stuff and I need some help,

Thanks

No need to apologize, we were all new once.....welcome to the board....

You have the order for hook-up correct.....you can only use one of those amps running in bridged mode to drive your sub. There is a diagram on the amp around the speaker connectors showing you how to bridge the amp, hook the sub up to the marked outputs and enjoy. You will need to set the levels (gain controls) on the crossover and the amp. Plug the RCAs into the variable outputs on the TV first, hopefully your TV will not mute the built-in speakers automatically when you plug in the RCAs to feed the sub. If it does, hopefully you have another set of RCAs on the TV you can use instead. This will also mean you will need a handy way of matching the TV volume to the sub, does the amp come with a remote gain control?.....

You will need the crossover to filter out mids and highs from the sub signal......once you set the system up you should be able to control it thru the TV remote volume control.

Hey! Thanks for the advice. I've been playing around with my setup, and I finally found the 3.5mm to RCA cable I had around here to test it out. I'm still a little confused about my amp though - right now I have my sub hooked up to R+ and R-, so it's not bridged, and it still seems to thump alright. See picture:

Another thought I had: seeing as I still have my L+ and L- at my disposal, could I rearrange the order of my connections to add a speaker to this system? See diagram:

This setup makes sense in my head, because with the amp first in line, it wouldn't cut out the higher frequencies if I added a speaker - but the crossover would filter the signal right before it reached the sub. I'm still new at this, so if there is a blatant problem with this idea please tell me haha.

Thanks for looking

The blatant problem is that the crossover is an RCA level device, you can't use it on the speaker level outputs for the amp.

You need a pair of speakers for mids and highs and a sub.....use the amp to drive the sub better by looking at the speaker connectors again.....find the ones marked for bridging the output (typically R+ and L-) and hook the sub to them.....use the high pass filtered output from the crossover to feed another amp of some kind and those speakers. If you have audio input jacks on the TV use them, that plus the sub should work pretty well......

Ahh, that makes sense. My amp doesn't say anything about bridging on it, or in the manual - I think it's just too old for that. I've heard that if I bridge it anyway and it is already internally bridged that it will fry? Secondly, the crossover doesn't have a high pass output, it only has the one output to the sub. Keeping that in mind, is it still possible to hook up speakers off of the same input signal from my TV/iPod/whatever?

I couldn't find anything on the 'net about the amp other than the fact it's been discontinued.....

It won't be internally bridged....you might have to use an 8ohm load across the 2 channels to keep the amp from crapping out, but it can probably be done.............other option is a second sub.....

If your TV can handle the signal switching for you, try this.....plug the ipod into one of the extra sets of inputs in the TV....plug the crossover inputs into the audio out jacks on the TV, then hook the amp up to the Xover outputs. If you have another pair of coaxs you can always run them full range off the second amp you already own.

crossover before the amp and put lowpass 60 or 120. and your amp pushes 35watts rms per channel. cant find what it does at 2ohm per channel and i cant find if its bridgable... it should be able to bridge anyway. but you wont get more than 60 ish watts rms bridge even if you can....

all i can say is that you need something better for an amp lol..... is this for a car??
