Help installing head unit in 97 Civic
 

Hey, I recently bought a 97 Civic coupe, and need some help installing the car head unit (it's a JVC one)

I read onlne at www.installdr.com and it looks like I'll have to take out the bottom part of my dash, but on some sites I saw that you can just use the U shaped wires to grab the head unit and pull it out.

What is the fastest and easiest way?

Does anyone want to do it for me?

"U-shaped wires" are for Fords, and some euro vehicles.

I suggest you take it to a shop.

its easy... take the sides panels off(the whole thing around the shifter that goes up the sides- 4 screws i believe), the one above the cup holder and you have access to everything.... cut the wires re wire the new deck and done- 1hour max and the tools you will need is a Phillips screw driver and wire cutters and some of those connectors that you squeeze - you can get them at HH

And even easier yet is to take a axe to the dash. That will expose everything. ^^^^^ don't mind if I do not take your advice but there is absolutely no need to cut wires in this car. A harness is $12.00 for the guy and guarantees that the wiring is done properly the first time and allows him to easily reinstall the factory radio.

Some Hondas have two hidden screws under the back bottom part of the deck. The only way to get to these screws is to remove the panel underneath the deck and then look for them.

that's what i said- panel above the cup holder and the panel that goes up the sides... i prefer hard connection rather then harnesses- better connection and less connections=less noise/stronger signal.... and i don know whats with the axe... its seriously pretty easy job- i own a 97 civic... everything is easy in that car

Dash kits come with instructions on how to take the dash apart.
Its not exactly rocket science.

agreed nothing is worst then pulling a deck only to find out some cheapass "HARDWIRED THE DECK FOR BETTER CONNECTION AND SOUND" from that point on its just a hackjob tryin to make connections in the dash.

My god, measure even resistance through a harness connection and the ones that you squeeze... + I always heat shrink my connections so they are definitely not "cheap ass". If there is an original deck- yeah harness will be a good idea, but usually (in used civics) there is an aftermarket deck already in it, so buying a harness wont do much...

Ok, So I got the deck installed.

It looks kinda shitty since there I didn't just a kit and there is no trim ring either

Anyone know where i can get an install kit for 97 Honda Civic?

Uhm... as far as I know the 97 civics don't need a kit- your deck should came with a small trim and that should be perfect- it was in mine.
