Help me please

OK so I'm beyond frustrated. Last year I had a jvc head unit, worked fine...removed it one day to get under my dash and when I placed it back it blew.

Now i just bought a new one and the second i connect it to my truck it starts to smell. I also get power to the unit with the car totally off. Even though the screen is lit it doesn't allow me to do anything. I also get the letters KL pop from time to time.

It's grounded properly and wired properly.

Please help!!

Are you using an aftermarket wiring harness? The best way to connect an aftermarket deck is with a sub 20 dollar harness that you wire to the deck at your kitchen table, then simply plug in in to the factory plug in your dash. They are sold at FS BB Canadian Tire, etc.

I would have to say that either your power or ground are NOT connected correctly. If the deck starts to smell, well, that should be self explanitory.

Please give us more details so we can help you better.

Yes I bought a wiring harness with it and confirmed that its for the right vehicle.

I'm sure I have it grounded. I think it's more of a power issue because the unit will power up without the key in the ignition. Although I just get a blank screen.

Also when using my factory radio I encounter none of these issues.

Whats also weird is that for a few seconds with no key in the ignition and the door open the car made that chiming noise to remind you that the door is open...however with no key in the ignition it doesn't do that. It started making the noise right when I plugged the radio in. Something weird is going on with my vehicles wiring here.

I think there is a fault and/ or it may not be wired properly (lightning doesn't strike twice unless it has a wiring issue)

Well the wiring harness is pretty straight forward and I connected all the colours together properly. Same with grounding it. The only issue I can see is if the harness was in fact the wrong one but it was running my old JVC for months before it blew. It's like instant frying when I plug the damn thing in. Still getting power to it but no action.

Did you just go by the colors? The factory wires and the adapter wires may not use the same color coding. I have a feeling that you may have reversed the +12v batt and +12v ignition wires around. It would explain why you get power to it without the key on. That may also cause operating problems as well. Check the connections between the factory harness and the adapter harness and make sure all wires are connected to the right ones ignoring the colors for now go by what they do not by what color they are. Let us know if that helps at all.
