How to get the most out of my 6x9's?

what up guys, i installed my rockford 6x9's not too long ago. im happy with the sound but it seems that the midbass produced from this set just doesnt seem justified yet. my improperly enclosed dash speakers have more midbass than my rockfords. all i really have for them is a bass boomer enclosure. they are just in front of the seats, angled towards the roof and a bit towards the passengers.

i layered the inside and outside with sound deadening material and some foam material too

thanks guys

What series Rockfords? How much power?

Sesh Shaker 02-06-2010 01:18 AM

they are the P1692's. i think 75rms and im feeding only around 50 right now. but im not off by that much power am i? or is it really that important to over power a little/match rms

a reasonable amount over overpowering definitely doesn't hurt, as it'll make it easier on the amp and will generally offer more control over the voicecoil. The more overhead you have without thermally overloading the speakers imo is best. Really, 50RMS should be OK for that series of 6x9. I really dislike enclosures that are prefabbed for speaks. I would run them out of the enclosures altogether if you can, or simply build something with more volume. Putting foam in there is going to fool the speaker on what internal volume is acutally there, so I'd take the foam out first, maybe even the sound deadening too depending on how it sounds. I'm just going off the top of my head here, as it's waaaay too late to bust out the math and figure out what enclosure's gonna work best if you have to use one, sorry lol

haha dont worry didnt even expect a response let alone some mathematics at this hour.

i was on another forum and they suggested the same thing because of them needing an infinite baffle configuration or whatever... then i found out he just meant the rear deck lol. so i proposed this idea: cut out the bottoms of my enclosures all together?

heres a quick sketch up in paint:

edit: the speakers are actually angled towards the passengers, just forgot you couldnt even rotate images that well in this stupid program

Ok, but why are you forced to use these enclosures in the first place?

Sesh Shaker 02-06-2010 01:48 AM

mmm trying to find a way to attach it to the door as opposed to puttin it in the door. this cars about to die soon and im not gonna do 110% until the next ride. but for now i want to get as much out of it as possible at this moment. dont have much experience in fiberglass anyways.

I thought caravans had 6x9 slots in the door anyways...... Why couldn't you just cut the front panel off of the box and use it as an adapter to bolt to the door skin behind the plastic panel? It's a major redneck style bandaid, but it would satisfy yer needs for the time being

My 2000 has 'em in the sides inbetween the 2nd and 3rd row seats. The speakers wells seemed to be large enough for the Focal 6X9s I tossed in there to work well.

Sounds to me like the HP filter is set too high.....if they are cut off above 80hz that might be part of the problem.....:smokin:

HTH

ill be able to fiddle around again once im back for reading week. too much school stuff right now.. i will try different things for the HPF and the enclosure and see where it goes. they are being amped by a mtx tc4004 btw! saving the other two channels for the dash speakers maybe
