Installation Help: 2x SPX-137A and 2x Alpine SPR-57C

Speaker specs:
SPX-137A
  • 8-50 Watt RMS Range
  • Peak 200 Watt

SPR-57C
  • 2-100 Watt RMS Range
  • Peak 300 Watt

I have the two sets and am looking for some advice on how to install them using my kenwood kac 729s amp. The amp is 600W peak and able to push 150 watts x 2 at 2 ohms.

I'm thinking of bridging the front (the SPXs) and rear (SPRs) in parallel for a 2ohm load, about 150W rms, 250-400W peak per side.

Anyone have any other suggestions or any input on what I'm thinking?

Thanks!

If u parallel your fronts and rears you should be good. I think u misused the word "bridging" in that last paragraph. I had to read it a few times to get what u meant.

It will work fine. There will be no adjustment besides what's available in the passive xovers. The typeX xovers are awesome, but there will be no easy way to attenuate the rears if they overpower the sound from the fronts. I think the typeX's are very efficient, which will help tyem be prominent over the rears.

Let us know how it works out.

Thanks for the response, and ya you're right; i didn't mean bridging there..

But anyways, I connected everything, it all worked beautifully for about a night, and today the speakers started going out everytime I turned the volume up and the subs went off. I haven't gotten a chance to look into the connections yet and I'm assuming it's just a bad connection or something. I'll post back after I check and confirm.

My main concern is should I be worried about blowing my speakers?? The amp is pushing more peak power than the speakers can handle but not by far so I'm not sure about that.

Your amp is pushing 600w Max at 2 ohms when bridged to a single channel. If your amp pushes 150w RMS @ 2 ohms per side, peak is most probably 300w. Since you bridged your front speakers together, the max they can handle is 400w together, and your rears can take 600w max together.

I wouldn't worry about blowing your speakers.

Whoa whoa whoa; what are you powering your subs with?? There was no mention of subs in your first post. If you're using your amp to power your mids described above AND sub(s), it's likely stressing your amp as it's not designed to run "tri-mode".
Also, don't ever worry about peak power- only RMS.

I don't think it's a connection issue because the the amp works constantly up to a certain volume, and after that it cuts in and out basically every second (the amp power light goes on and off accordingly). anyone got any ideas on what it could be?

subs are powered with a separate Alpine MRP-M1000 amp. Forgot to mention that earlier.

It could be your battery.

Are you park with engine off or running?
