from what i understand the proper airbag disabling is to disconnect the battery and pull the fuses for the airbag then allow the car to sit for over 30 min
then you should be safe

On that vehicle you need not worry about airbags deploying when installing a deck..( most cars for that matter)...granted I do this every day, and as previously mentioned don't play with yellow loom! (Remember yellow snow-BAD, yellow loom-BAD!!!)Always take care when fishing cables "blindly" through the dash, as that could create problems even with the battery disconnected...now removing them and deploying them with a 9volt battery is another topic...LOL(Mark...!!!)

All right, I'm feeling much better after this last set of posts. I got the right harness today, and I am assuming that if I do all of my soldering outside the car (connecting the aftermarket harness for the Subaru's to the kenwood harness) I don't need to worry about the "yellow Loom." Then just go the the car and essentially plug and play, right? Thanks for all the replies (The guy at Best-buy gave me the same reply - no need to worry on Subarus)

you guys are out to lunch. Get the right harness, connect it to your deck harness, plug it in, mount the deck, and your good to go. 20 min job.

^ as stated a couple times ,a harness adapter can make a deck install child's play...(assuming you haven't snapped half the plastic dash peices...!!!) .. if you're doing a "system" and routing a large amount of cables then slow down and remove panels that you can , especially if you are new to a particular vehicle.. (common sense goes a long way here..)ie: newer vehicles will have SRS sensors in the seat bealt retainers; don't be so quick to just cram cables down the "sides" of the panels to the back...if you are really uncertain then get a manual and map out where these different sensors are located as newer cars are equiped with more and more airbags...A-pillars, etc..(This is a general response to the airbag concern.)When in doubt pay the ~50$/hr!!!!!!!!! It could save a life....

When in doubt about a new model car, it's a good idea to contact the dealership/manufacturer for information and notes about the electrical system.
After all, some of us know it's not JUST the airbags we need to worry about, disconnecting the battery on some new cars will fry an on board computer.
