Kickpods in a YJyoh
I have been scowering the internet for a few weeks (since boxing day actually) looking for any YJ with speaker kickpods. I have no luck so far, the only thing somewhat close, was a place that made kickPANELS, which are just plastic covers for the bare metal by the drivers left foot, and the front passengers right foot. Since i havent found any on the net, i think i may be the first to attempt these bad boys. Yup, thats right, a $400 set of speakers on the floor in a jeep that, yes, goes through water and PLENTY of mud. hmmmm, good idea? probably not. Worth trying? Probably not! Im i gonna? absolutely! So, in about 3-4 weeks time, i will hopefully have some pictures of the worlds first kickpods in a jeep(that i know of) and i will own them i DO have plans on making a hinge/cover setup, so i can cover the speakers when im 4x4n. Let me know what u all think, and let me know FOR SURE, if u have any links to a site with somethin like this, that has been done before, coz i could really use some ideas, jeeps arent really made for having a killer soundstage... and ive made 2 pairs of these for CARS before.... to make it even tougher, the jeeps a 5 speed, with a foot ebrake. Also, what do you guys think about having like a 2" or so, port tube coming up, so when i cover the speakers, the sounds are still vented out of the tube (somewhat isobarically). That would obviously not be a pemanent install, but think it would be ok for when the mids are covered??
I know over at sounddomain there might be one Yj or Tj with kicks, in the reader's ride section. In my 92 Yj I did some 6.5's in the doors, and mounted the tweets in the upper carpeted part of the kick area, almost by the bottom of the dash. For the low power and cheap components (Clarion) that I am running, it sounds quite balanced, fairly decent separation too. Will try to dig up that link when I get home.....

His is automatic though. Not sure how the port tubes will work. I had my boss look at my truck, to get kicks on the drivers side, I think he suggested that the e-brake pedal would have to be cut and welded so that it did not go down to the floor. It is very tight fitting anything down there. I am very happy with my setup, the difference from running 4x6's in the dash and 3.5's in the kicks, to an entry level comp. set is unreal. PM me if you want to have a listen one day.
