me=newbie
hi. I just bought a Pheonix Gold Octane R 500W amp and Octane R 12 inch sub with a ported enclosure and an install kit. I am new to this and I was wondering if any of you knew of some good installation guides. I drive a 1990 pontiac firefly, would the amp+sub work ok for this car? I dont plan on having the system going while the engine's not running or something like that.
thanks alot
thanks alot
scrounge around big 4 sale eh?
fairly simple to do an amp with a kit,
red wire goes from battery, to a fuse (should come with the kit i believe) no more then 18" from the battery, from there the red wire continues back to where ever u want to mount the amp,
DO NOT CONNECT THE FUSE YET, as u dont want the live power wire in your car sittin around.
once u get the red wire thru the fire wall, wait a minute, till u connect the blue wire in the kit, to the remote wire (usually blue, but consult your deck manual) on your deck,
keep the deck outta the dash for now as well.
run this wire up outta the way under the dash over to the drivers side, and have it meet the red power wire, use some wire ties and zip em together, clip the excess off the ties, loosen up the door jam trim panels a bit so u can tuck the 2 wires underneath it so they arent visible, all the way back to where u will mount the amp,
next run the RCA cables that came with the kit, from the back of the deck, into the hole in your dash where the deck would be, up under the dash behind your glove box to the passenger side door jam, repeat the same steps u took with the power and remote wire, tuckin it under the trim to make for a clean install.
now once all those wires are laid out, u wanna find a good place to ground the amp at, like under a seat bolt or existing screw or bolt if possible, just make sure u sand the area down to BARE clean metal, attatch the ground wire securly to this spot,
connect up your wires, (i normally go power, remote ground last to avoid accidently welding an alan key to the side of my amp while tightening the power wire) but i could be doin this *** backwards too, so anyone who can correct me on this feel free.
then connect your amp to your sub, + to +, - to - and set your gains how u want em, and enjoy.
hope that helps
