My Sub/Amp Question. Please Help

I recently bought two used Alpine 12'' Type E 4-ohm subs (Model# SWE-1242), and that turned out to be a big mistake because so far the used Type-E's and amp I have doesn’t work the way I was told they did when I first bought them. I've installed a few things audio related in the past, such as receivers, amps, speakers, subs, I've even done a little research on car audio installation online, but I cant answer all the questions that arise in my life's path. I realize that I still have a very limited understanding of car audio mechanics and because of that I'm left puzzled and in need of some answers. My past personal experiences have taught me to be more cautious about buying used electronics, I simply wasn’t being as pro-active as I could have. If I could go back in time, I would have had everything plugged in and tested before I handed anybody a penny. That’s besides the point, I own a DHD NTX-2029 Power Cruiser Amp, one I bought used, it has the following specs: "Max Power @ 2 Ohm : 1600W, 2 Ohm Capable, Variable Low Pass Filter (30Hz - 250Hz), Adequate, Variable High Pass Filter (50Hz - 1KHz), Variable Bass Boost Circuit (0 - 18dB), Variable Bass Frequency (30Hz - 100Hz), Frequency Response : (15Hz-30KHz), Gold Plated RCA Jacks, Low & High Level Input, Gain Control, Power Indicator, Signal to Noise Ratio : Better Than 80 D, and Channel Separation."
I have searched and searched online for more information on this amp but this is all I can find, it doesn't even appear on DHD's company website. The amp and one of the subs I bought from friends, and the other sub I ordered online at eBay). So far I cant seem to buy anything that works the way it should, its my own fault, I should have been more cautious. Anyways, when I got it all installed, I eagerly put a bassey CD in my receiver hoping to get some clean, loud, soul thumping sounds, instead I heard my Type-E subs make a funny, sandy, echoey-ish type noise right from the get go. The only thing that actually worked was the power light on the amp as well as my cars stock speakers. This is where my first question arises: Did my amp blow the subs? If there isn’t enough here to answer that question then I'm forced to ask question two, consider the fact that today I bought 2 Brand New Alpine Type-R 12'' Subs (Model #SWR-1242D):
Can I install the "2 Alpine Type-R 12'' Subs (Model #SWR-1242D)" to my "DHD NTX-2029 Power Cruiser Amp"?
If so, in your opinion would that combination of sub/amp make for one great car audio system?
I think I was able to clearly identify my questions and if I wasn’t please forgive me, this is my first post here. I want to make a good system, something not to expensive, I am a college student right now, so I am on a very limited budget. But my love for loud bumping systems is strong, and I want to do what I can as quickly as I can because I want my system up and running so I can start causing some commotion in my neighborhood. Wink! This leads me to my final two questions, considering the amp I already own will not be enough power for the new Type-S subs I just bought:
What amplifier will work best for the price?
When reading the specs about amps online, when it says things like this:
150 watts RMS x 2 at 4 ohms
150 watts RMS x 2 at 2 ohms
Does that mean that this particular amp will only give 150 watts of RMS for each amp at 2, or 4 ohms?
If so, why do they only give the RMS for 2 subs with 2, or 4 ohms? Why don’t they list RMS for subs with different Ohms?
I’m going to finish my masquerade of questions here, I hope I haven’t caused to much havoc in your world today. In conclusion thank you so much for your time and I will be eagerly waiting a reply to put my curiosity bugs regarding my audio dilemmas to sleep.

Sincerely,
Stephen Paragone

i looked up specs for your amp and subs.
i wouldn't expect it to do a 2 ohm load in bridged mode.
the specs it gives are:
220 wrms x 2 @ 4 ohm
320 wrms x 2 @ 2 ohm,
640 wrms x 1 @ 4 ohm bridged.

It makes sense, double the 2 ohm load when bridged to 4 ohm.
So, you can power one 4 ohm sub with that amp. or you can put one on each channel.

i suspect it will sound bad trying to bridge it down to 2 ohm.

last question

If I bought 2 Alpine Type-E subwoofers (Model #SWE-1242) 12'' inches, with the following specs:
12" 4-ohm subwoofer
Kevlar®-treated pulp woofer cone with Santoprene rubber surround
dual oversized Nomex® spiders
frequency response: 28-1,000 Hz
power range: 50-250 watts RMS
peak power: 750 watts
sensitivity: 89 dB
top mount depth: 6-1/4"
sealed box volume: 0.8-1.7 cu. ft.
Would the amp I have now, the amp that I listed about above (DHD NTX-2029 Power Cruiser Amp), would that amp work ok with these two subs? If so, how do you reccommend I wire 2 12'' Alpine Type-E subs to that amp? Your help will be very much appreciated thank you so much.
