need help! new system, through stock speakers

Hey guys...I am doing a full system, 4x 6.5 components, 2x 12" subs, 2 amps and Alpine head unit in my 02 Chev Tahoe.

However, it's being done in stages!

Yesterday I installed the 2 amps and the head unit. All wired. I used an adapter plug on the factory harness to get power, etc...
I ran the amps speakers wires to the factory harness in the dash board. A guy with an install shop with an Escalade told me he did the same thing to avoid the hassle of running new wires into the 4 doors.

So keep in mind, I would then simply remove the factory door speakers and install my new 6.5 components when they arrive. I don't own any subs yet...gonna wait until the speakers are in the doors and then try out various boxes until I like one!

The new stereo and amps work great, however, the factory sub and the two factory speakers in the very rear pilars are still on. Why is this?

Here's my problem....system was working great...then I started the truck and now there is no sound. I left everything as is, and I took an old speaker and touched the wires to the sub amp (no sub hooked up yet!) and there was sound, and I also touched the wires to the 4ch amp and got sound too from each channel.

So sometimes if I shut the truck off and remove the key, then start it up again, I get sound.

Please someone tell me what is happening here!! If I remove the 4 door speakers and hook up new ones, will those rear pilar speakers and stock sub still be on? What do I need to do?!

Thanks

Well, First I'll ask how big and heavy the stock head unit is. If it's fairly heavy, it probably will have the preamps, amps etc for the factory system in it. If not, the wires on the back of the head unit should lead to some nondescriptive boxes. (In my 1993 ThunderBird they were under the rear deck) The wires then exit another side of this little conglomeration of boxes and out to the speaker system. You basically need to find these wires, find which ones you need, and discard the ones you don't. Just wrap them into electrical tape and set them aside in the harness. You should only really need your 4 door speakers, and it might involve jumping a few wires from the harness to the wires that actually control the speakers.
