Need help troubleshooting
Hello everyone,
I'm hoping someone is enthusiast enough to recognize a problem by a simple description. I have a Mitsubishi Lancer Ralliart with a STOCK Rockford Fosgate unit installed and the stock touchscreen/nav. I bought it used and got a good price, but the sub doesn't work. The subwoofer itself is fine but it seems like there is possibly a problem with the channel on the Stock amp. So I got myself a Sub and amp with a PAC SCOEM but the installation didn't go smoothly. I had help from a friend who did a small amount of amateur work in car audio, but he didn't have time to troubleshoot the problem with me. I have home audio experience and computers, but none in car audio. And my friend had never used a PAC SCOEM unit.
Here is the problem. When I drive my car now, I get static waves in the speakers, but nothing works, even though I didn't touch the actual speaker wires, just the subs. But even when my music is off, I get some reoccurring static noises. No sound is coming from music or navigation, the speakers are just incapacitated.
We only spliced 4 wires that were identified (we're pretty sure but not 100%) as the subwoofer channels. We cut them BEFORE they reach the stock amp in order to wire them to the PAC SCOEM unit. Then the PAC unit goes to the amp in the trunk with RCA cables. We also piggybacked the signal wire so that the signal going to the stock amp also goes all the way to the trunk amp.
We followed the instructions given with the PAC unit, but my hunch is that something isn't grounded properly.
Does anyone know what could have incapacitated all of my speakers?
I can't provide pictures at the moment, but I might have some after this coming week end. Been waiting for the weather to be nice, I don't have a garage.

sounds like you cut the signal wires from the headunit to the original amp (amp that runs the speakers) things to try = does the amp in the boot get any signal? whats connected to the boot amp and whats connect to the original amp?

The signal wire going to the stock amp is still going to the stock amp, but I wrapped the signal wire for the sub amp around the same wire that goes to the original amp. Can I not piggy-back that wire? Would it really make static noises in my speakers because of the signal wire? I thought it would just not turn on if it failed.

Simply put, there is ONE signal wire going from the head unit to the factory AMP. I simply removed a bit of that wire's covering, close to the factory amp, and wrapped the SUB AMP signal wire around it. This is probably really noob, because I am, but my logic was "since this is just a wire that sends a signal to turn on the amp, it could probably transfer over to another wire and do the same".

signal wire should send fullrange sound from the headunit to the amp, it isn't a remote wire to turn the amp on. it's sending the signal from the deck to the amp so the amp can amplify the sound it's being sent. by cutting that wire it sounds like the amp isn't getting a clean signal from the headunit...... also can you post pics of this stock Rockford fosgate system? (I would connect the remote wire for your sub amp to a switch, or on your accessories pwr)

So basically, all the signal wires were untouched, save for the 4 colours that were indicated to be the 2 subwoofer channels for the stock dual coil sub. We are getting no sound at all through both amps, and there is static like noises going through all the speakers, even when sound should not be playing, like when the music is turned off.
