new receiver - 2004 Honda Accord

It's my first post here and I hope I can get some advice.

I've got a 2004 Honda Accord with radio that is dying with an intermittent "snap crackle pop" and the radio stops working.

If I turn off the power on the radio then turn it on back again the radio works again until the next "snap crackle pop".

The Accord has a proprietary (non-standard) radio/single Cd unit so removal and replacement of the stock unit isn't worth the aggravation.

I have a single DIN Honda (Pioneer) 6-disc changer that plugs into the stock radio. I've never installed it but now that the stock radio is dying I was thinking I could install a new head unit in the lower location using the single DIN configuration.

Do all single DIN have two mounting holes on the sides? Are Pioneer connections standardized so I can use the cable that came with the CD Changer?

Below are some pics...
