Pioneer unit install help.

Hi all just wondering is anyone could give me some advice on my install. First of all I have a 2007 Hyundai Sonata GLS and a Pioneer DEH-P6000UB which came from my older 1999 Golf GTI. Also have the wiring harness and mounting bracket for the Sonata. So here goes.

I wired everything according to the wiring diagrams of the head unit and the harness. The only problem I ran into with the wiring was the Illumination wires. On the head unit, the Orange/white is the Illumination wire. On the harness diagram there's orange(Illuimination) and orange/white(Dimmer), however on the harness itself there's only orange/white and orange/black, so I assumed by process of elimination that the orange/black was the orange(Illum.) wire and connected that to the orange/white(Ilum.) head unit.

Well I get no response from head unit after it is hooked up, no display, but there is some power, for instance when I turn off power and pull out the car keys, the unit beeps and then face plate opens up and then about 30 seconds later it closes back up again.

Also there is an extra plug/adapter that came off the factory stereo which has no place on the pioneer unit and the sonatas antenna cable does not fit into the pioneer unit.

Is there something wrong with the unit or should I have connected the orange/white to orange/white even thought the diagram on the harness says its the dimmer wire?

Please help, and sorry for long post.

the illumination wire is not usually required unplug ther orange wire and see if everything works

Hi thanks for the reply. I disconnected the Illumination wire but it still has no display at all. I know there is some kind of power going to it because the face plate does go up and down as if i was going to insert a disc and then about after 10secs or so it goes up by itself. I cannot control this however, by pressing the eject disc or opening the face plate button. It does this on its own. I also respliced the red wires (Accessory) from the harness to the head unit connector, even though it seemed alright. And still the same thing, not lights or display. Could my unit be pooched? Or am I doing something wrong? Keep in mind this is my first install of a car stereo.

I guess in my experience with Pioneer's that's when it's not seeing ignition/acc power. Just as a test try both red & yellow from headunit to yellow of harness and see if you get anything.

if the unit beeps after you shut the acc off that tells me that there is 12v on the acc wire clean the connectors in the back of the faceplate maybe its not making contact

I will try all the suggestions. Btw the headunit was in a car that was in an accident before where the car has been written off. Not sure if that means anything or not.

the unit may be defective

thats what im starting to figure. I think im going to scrap it and just get a new one. Something not too expensive and can connect to my Samsung Android Galaxy S2 phone. Any suggestions on a head unit that does this, and has a aux input and a usb.

If you wrote a car off while the unit was in it I'm going to say in all likelihood that the unit itself is shot and that's not really a defect that's forcibly destroying parts inside.. lol xD

Pioneer AVH-P6300BT .. a bit pricy though but it has a fold out 7" screen, Nav ready, dvd capable and all the other options you wanted.
