wondering if a 1/2" thick piece of plexi could handle a 12" sub in a sealed enclosure??
i'll have 4 roughly 1cube enclosures connected together (somewhat like a flat square divided into 4) with a sheet of plexi across the face of it..
it will be attached along all 8 walls of each seperate enclosure and then a 1/2" piece of mdf plastered on top of it, binded to it..
this piece will have cut outs a little larger than the sub size and fanning out..
subs will be attached to the plexi...

am i nuts or will this work????
did my explaination make sense??

thanx in advance..

I honestly have no clue what you are trying to explain.. but from my experience 1/2" plexi glass is pretty damn strong. I have a 12" sub in a sealed box with a plexiglass window that's about 8" x 5" or so (relatively small).. and the plexiglass is only about 1/4" thick and it doesn't budge one bit.. it might flex a little, but its solid as rock. I can just imagine how strong 1/2" would be. Also, I remember hearing somewhere that using plexiglass has the equivalent of adding 20% to your box size or something along those lines.

I think you may want 3/4" for the plexi and the mdf. You may have some flexing if you don't.

You can also use 1/2" Lexan which is alot stronger then 3/4" plexi will be and it will be around the same price.
