Problem w/ 6x9 install

Hi:

I'm a noob, with limited install knowledge...
I bought a used Solara that came with an aftermarket system.* Panasonic Head Unit w/ rear Infinity 6x9's, an Explod amp, and sub-woofer.
Anyway, the 6x9's were shot.* They were working, but sounded pretty rough.
I went to Best Buy and bought a pair of brand new Sony 6x9's and got them installed in house.
When I went to pick up the car, I was told that the rear output on the head unit was shot - therefore the 6x9's and sub were inoperable.
I told the installer that the rear speakers were working when I brought the car in, and he said they weren't.* He said that I was only hearing the highs - if anything.
I didn't argue with him, because I'm no expert, but when I'm thinking about it, I know for sure the rear output was working.
So my question to the forum is - is it possible when the installer was hooking up the new 6x9's that he blew the rear output on the head unit?
I'm thinking it's pretty straightforward to hook up rear speakers, so I don't know how that could have happened.
If Best Buy was at fault, I'd like to have them rectify the situation.
Thanks in advance.

Most likely its their fault. Like the installer said, "He said that I was only hearing the highs - if anything." That means that they were working before he installed the new ones. Dont let BestBuy jerk you around. All the big electronics stores (aka Futureshop/BestBuy) for the most part have terrible installers from all the experiences I have heard about.

"He said that I was only hearing the highs - if anything." - He kind of screwed himself there

Now, I have not seen the install, but see if they have the old speakers still, if they hook them up and there is nothing coming out of them, maybe they are right, but if you hear something, and they statement above was said, then you have a case

Good luck..

It's a Panasonic CQ-7301U.

Sorry, I don't know how the sub is set up. I never took a look at the wiring. As far as I knew, it was only the 6x9's that were shot. Everything else was working fine when I brought it in...

Did you replace the deck? I would get the deck checked out elsewhere and if it works send them the bill.

Happy Ending (no, not that kind of happy ending!)

Well, I called Best Buy the next day and spoke to an assistant manager.

He took my concern very seriously and told me that the general manager would call me back in a few days as he was out of town.

As promised, the GM phoned me back a couple of days later. I explained the situation to him and he offered to replace my deck free of charge.

No drama, no threats, no hassles.

Even though it was my word vs. the installer, he gave me the benefit of the doubt. He was more concerned about my Best Buy experience and didn't want an unhappy customer.

They installed a brand new JVC deck in my car today. It was comparable, if not better, than the deck I currently had. They didn't try to go cheap on me.

Well, I have to commend Best Buy for turning this negative experience into a positive one.

And of course, I have to give props to Joe Collucci, manager of Best Buy in Ajax.
