Quick ground question

I have a cobalt with the battery in the trunk. Question 1. since im only running about 3 feet of power wire, should I use a fuse?, and Question 2. Instead of grounding to a piece of the chasis can i just ground it to the negative on the battery?

Or will this work fine

Always fuse a power wire and yes you can ground to the battery negative terminal.

Is that a red wire that you are using for ground? If so, change it like pronto. One little mistake and it's all over for something all over a couple of bucks for the proper color ground wire. Nothing wrong with where that ground is attached to by the looks of things.

No no I dont think he's saying your stupid. But when you get going and excited to hook it all up grabbing the wrong red by accident can be a tragic day. Maybe the worst case wrap some black tape around it to mark it.

Like when your car goes in for service for example and the service tech unhooks the wires from the battery..... seen that happen way too many times....all over the cost of 3' of proper colored wire.
