Remote Start Install on Diesel

Just looking to get an idea on how much a 1 way or possibly 2 way remote start unit is installed. I was quoted approx. $300 from Visions today and I thought that was excessive at the least. Let me know from your experience appreciate it.
If anybody has any experience with the Viper smart start so you can use your phone to start your vehicle let me know, looks interesting.

wow $300 too much ? and your asking about the smart start too?
no offence but these things cost money. and alot depends on your vehicle year and model and manual or automatic transmission.( you've already mentioned its diesel) does it have some sort of anti theft system? those are things you need to look at, also what features are you looking for? keyless entry? light flash? all additional cost options

Iam going to go down to Bestbuy today in Calgary and see about having a Viper Smartstart installed on my 2006 GMC sierra 2500hd duramax. On their website it is 599 installed plus tax. See how this turns out.

Here's what BB will tell you
$599 for the unit and basic install
~$60-100 for the module to do the by-pass and door locks
$50 for the door locks
$30 for hooking up the by-pass
$30 for the truck having a factory alarm, which needs to be turned on and off
~$30-60 for it being a desiel truck

Remote Starters arent inexpensive anymore, especially when you have to consider the factory anti theft systems and the addition work.

Futureshop offers their most basic @ $150 installed, plan on paying a minimum of twice that if you have a newer vehicle and add options (door locks, trunk release, etc)

it adds up in a real quick hurry.

Find a local "mom & pop" shop and you might walk away with a better deal.

shakes head..... $300 expensive?

If you want a good and I mean a good unit then you want a Compustar Pro unit. There is no "bypass" module to wire in separate, it is a module that docks into the brain and both units can have their software updated. Change vehicles next year, no problem, upload new software. Chances are that it will control the wait to start, doorlocks, domelight etc. at the same time (99% of the time it does). Really want to step up, Compustar Drone.... that is what I will be going to shortly. I am out in the Dewinton area if you want to meet up.

Exactly what happened at Bestbuy take that 599 smart start and add an additional 300 for install. 899 plus tax for remote start. Not sure iam ready for that.
Rob you recommend Compustar over Viper. Looking at both the Drone and Smart Start options.

Smart start is also being released for the rest of the DEI products. The big one being Autostart. I will be installing this in the next few months into my girlfriends car.

Definitely go the Drone or if you do not need the next gen, then the Compustar Pro FM way series would be all you need.
