How does one remove the Centre Console in a 1988 VW Jetta. I have taken out every bolt and screw that could possibly hold it on, and it does not comer out. Also, how does the shifter knob come off?

the shifter either twists off
as in being threaded on
or has a set screw or clip holding it on
the screw or clips are usually on the front and sometimes under the boot
