RMS Speaker Question (New to this)

Hi guys, sorry if this is a stupid question (may already have been answered, searched quickly but couldnt find it).

I want to put a pair of Polk db6501 in the front of my car and a pair of Polk db651 in the back.

6501 -> 100w RMS @ 4ohms
651 -> 60w RMS @ 4ohms

I was looking at the onx series of amplifiers. I was going to purchase the onx4.125 but i wasnt sure if this is dangerous because the 651 is only 60w RMS.

I have 2006 Matrix and am running 2 T1 12" off a RF punch 800a2 amp.

If anyone could please help me I would be really thankful (Dont want to kill the speakers).

I was debating between the onx4.80 and onx4.125, but the price difference is so little i figured id get the more powerful one if it was safe.

Regards,

cLutch

you should be fine just keep your gain low on the 60rms..
the speakers should run no problem with more power.

Alright awesome, I have a dnx7140 head unit, I think it has 2v preouts. So I should just start all the gians at minimum and slowly turn them up until I feel the back and fronts are increasing volume evenly? Im guessing the gain should be a little less for the rears than it is for the fronts.

The gain should be quite a bit lower for the rears.. Try 3/4 volume and gain 1/4 up and 0 to start, turn up until you hear slight distortion on each channel
lower gain on everything by 1/8th and then don't pass 3/4 volume in the future.

So I set my headunit to 3/4 and put gain on the amp to 0 for both front and back, then just increment the front until I hear distortion, and lower the gain an 8th? Then repeat for the rear?

Perfect, thanks a lot. I ordered from Sonicelectronix, gonna go to the states to pick it up in the next few weeks. I'll reply to this thread when I have everything installed .

Hopefully I can find somewhere to put the amp :P

Oh, btw will I have any electrical type problems (too much power). Not sure if the 2 amps will be drawing too much power.

Amps: Punch 800a2, Onx4.125

I have a capacitor, but then again I don't think I am ever going to be cranking the volume to the point where the amps are working near full load (at least not for a long period).
