I am not to sure what to think, bought a 10 Farad RF cap recently. Charged up, died right off, RMA. Second unit shows works for 4 days them poof. They accidentally told me they have been having this problem alot! Anyone else have the Rockford C10HB? Any problems like this? I am only running 3 10001BD, and a 450.1 so I am not straining it? Any thoughts, would love to hear them..lol

 

Capacitors are obviously a buyout item for Rockford as well as every other car audio company so how does having a bad run of caps mean RF sold out? Sold out in what way?

Did they warranty it? If so, sounds like they're taking care of business...

 

It's like buying a car, you didn't buy the honda accord you bought the M5. You expect it to be worth every penny. Then the car comes to you with a dead engine. You send it back being understanding" hey one in a million, I understand", they send you one that runs 4 days then dies. You then call to tell them and ask what the issue is and they say " yeah it's actually funny we got ALOT of calls with the same problem with those". Rockford is known for quality, 2 repeated failures, and omissions of a lot more make me beleive they bought fom a 3rd party or something. You have to look at the context.

 

I know the OLD rockford was known for quality, but I honestly can't say that from my experiences within the last 5-10 years. I find that looking for newer name brands tends to be more benifitial, as they are still trying to make a good name for products, while alot of older names that were good, have been slacking on quality because they sell with their name.......much like toyota and their recent MASSIVE recalls. I realize this is only my opinion, but I know of others that feel the same way.

 

OK the capacitors are crap and like a bad run of automobiles you get your money back at some point... hopefully.

I would imagine everyone else who buys these caps (not just Rockford) is having these problems... from a retail point of view I cant imagine selling these without doing pre-testing, you can get new gear but selling known faulty gear ignores the fact that customers dont grow on trees

 

CAPS are all made in one factory, companies buy them, and slap their name on it. end of disscusion, why would you buy a cap in the first place ? lol

What makes a 150 $ cap from RF any different from a 30 $ cap from ebay, nothing, they both suck in car audio, but in the real world, hold capacitance.

 

I've been using RF amps since 1986 to present day with absolutely no problems. The current bunch in my car have been in use for over 6 years in -30 winter to +40 summer, working at least 5 hours a day, and I've yet to encounter a problem. Most of the installs I do are for family and friends, and virtually all have RF amps, again no problems to date. For me, RF is still as good as they always were, in fact if nostalgia is removed, they are better as my systems today sound hella better (subjective based on my liking for impact) than they did in 1986 (mostly due to available power)...and hella cheaper!!

 

carbon caps won't do anything for your electrical system anyway... they don't work... my advice is to try and return it for as many 1F cans as you can get, or get some other product you can use (an amp or something)

 

For anyone to say "Caps" are useless and don't do anything is not only mileading but wrong. It's true that "Caps" are not solutions but band-aids and as everything else in life, you get what you pay for. Batteries have come a long way these days, and there are plenty of batteries out there that can provide 10x-100x the capacitance of a stiffening Cap. Any level of capacitance is better then non. Besides this topic has been killed over the years, all I can say is read ohm's Law, books are still your best friend, not the internet.

 

Of course they bought from a 3rd party. I said that.

You buy your M5, you get a flat. BMW replaces the tire and it gets a flat. Yep, BMW now sold out because Continental or Pirelli or whoever supplied two bad tires.
