S-2000 install

I have a good opportunity to impress my boss here. He recently bought a brand new 2006 S-2000 and asked me to install a new head unit with iPod control. He would also like the steering wheel controls to continue to work. I've picked up the SWI-PS from PAC, the wiring harness, the radio adaptor and the head unit is on its way (Pioneer).

My only concern about this install is the steering wheel controls. I've done a pile of head units and speakers, but never actually had a vehicle with steering wheel controls. PAC's website has a good indication of how to install and set up, but I have a few more questions:

1. The website says I might have to put a resistor in or I might not, depending on the car itself. Anyone know the trick to telling? Also, how the hell do I solder a resistor between two lines properly?

2. Can I use a wire tap off the stereo's switched 12V to power it or should I go to another source? Can I even use a wire tap or should I strip and solder?

3. Removing the head unit on one of these is dead easy, but I need to route the iPod cable through the centre console. Anyone know where all the fasteners are to take it off? Is is there enough room in the stock radio location to put the PAC module and it's masses of extra wiring, or should I stick it under the dash by the steering column? If so, how do I get that piece of trim off?

I appreciate it guys! This could go a long ways to getting me in good with the management here
