(seemingly) impossible remote problem
(seemingly) impossible remote problem
problem- our soundstream high amp and stinger digital hybrid cap don't seem to be getting a remote turn on signal.
Yet the sub amps and the line driver do.
1 single remote wire, on a 15 amp SPDT relay from the deck, daisy chained , the soundstream first, cap second, then the sub amps and linedriver.
How can the gear further down the remote line get a on signal, but not the first?
It seems unlikely that the soundstream and the digital cap both blew a remote(can that even happen, blowing a remote ??)
It gets weirder
A couple days ago the soundstream would work with the van running, if you shut it off, but keep it on accessory, the soundstream would shut off, but once again, not the gear downline(sub amps/LD). Its supposed to stay on.
Now nothing, no highs, no digital readout, even with the van running!! Subs work great
Sooo
I should add that my bro rewired the HU,SPDT relay and GMOS before this started to happen, but even if he did it wrong somehow... How can a single remote wire turn some on and not others
We've rewired the power and grounds even though they looked fine, no help there, the juice is flowing to them, 100% sure.
Any ideas?

We actually tried another amp, did the same thing, no power at all.
Small bonus its not the amp I guess.
The cap wasn't the problem either, but after thinking hard about it, it could very well be the relay. Between the HU, GMOS and the relay, its really confusing the wiring back there!!
We're gonna rip the Hu out , remove the relay and hope the HU can handle the remote draw by itself, it should I guess.
Thanks for the ideas KK, Yuli, I'll let you know if the relay removal works.

You should meter the remote lead back at the amps. Maybe somehow it is carrying a lower voltage that is enough to trigger the sub amp but not the highs amp or cap.
Without metering it, you can't really see what's going on.

My bro got the relay removed, and the gmos and HU rewired, the amp is powering up now, but from what he told me on the phone, now the front channel isn't working, just the rear.. I hate wiring!!!MF
Gonna go try some more stuff.
Yuli - when I get a "good" new battery. I promise to run no cap. The way things sit now, it does actually help
You pegged the relay though, extra onions for you
if it stops raining we'll drag the amp rack out and meter it Dukk. You're right, its the proper way.

either way, when you are done with it, this is the place to throw the cap off of

I hope I can toss it over the fence.
Rewired pretty much everything this morning, amp is working fine, no remote problems, amps all turn on/off at the same time etc.
We never did identify the second problem(after the relay), it must have been something with the wiring somewhere. Thanks everyone for the help.
See ya in Barrie, we plan on our best showing ever in bassrace, a solid 6th place
...high hopes
