soarer build thread

So I decided to make a build thread to document my plans/actions and retrieve feedback, tips and advice. The car is a RHD Toyota Soarer.

pics: Picasa Web Albums - Neil - Soarer pics t...

Came with an active 3 way carrozeria head unit, with time correction, eqs and all that fancy stuff. Powered carrozeria subwoofer and a set of focal polyglass speakers.

I started out my installed my AA Avalanche 12s from my old supra build.

I discovered the focals were powered by the deck when one night they stopped working (I assumed they had used the factory amp that was located in the trunk..but no...). So I decided to start fresh. Sold my one AA, the other will be made into a home theater sub, or a small sub in another car.

So over the month of december I acquired 2 of these: Elemental Designs

2 of these: Elemental Designs

and 2 of these: eDaudio.com

So pulled out the focals and put in the Mpyre 65m:

Ran them with the focal tweeters, active with their own nine.2x. It was too cold to install anything else.

When the weather started warming up, I was too busy rebuilding and upgrading the suspesnion, seats and carpet, so never got around to the sound system...

Then the head unit blew while I was on the way to work, blew focal tweeters in the process.

So for the past month I have been driving without sound, as I have been working on other things with the car, primarily suspension, and wheels (still waiting for the tires to come in). Also spent a considerable amount of time sound deadening for what was to come.

Now I picked up this little guy :

This week I finished sound deadening the area I want to put my subs in. Finished up most of the wiring and reinstalled the panels, 2 layers of fatmat, a ton of trunk bedliner and spray foam. Sealed up as much as I could, I want to isolate the trunk from the cabin and install the subs in the rear seat area:

I want the top of the box to line up with this ledge:

and then an amp rack along the top:

more pics:

also need to seal up the top with mdf and silicon:

front stage:

very shitty!!!

Here is the stock door panel (made for a 4" woofer, my mpyre is in there right now mostly blocked off). Going to have to do some cutting fiberglassing..but never done this before:

and no room for kick panels :

thats my custom black carpet I installed.

tweeter placement:

as you can see, no feasible place to put a mid in the door, without a lot of work. I dont think I would like the sound stage with the midrange in the door area either.

So I am thinknig a full range or a mid tweeter combo in the dash / A pillar area. Problem is space is tight on the drivers side, but I think I can get a 3" to fit there with pods or glass the dash area:

A lot more room on the passenger side:

Anywho..this is my thread to keep me motived and get this stuff done.

If anyone in the KW area needs a hand with anything, or to bounce off ideas, I am always happy to assist.

thanks.

No progress as of late. I am a bit under the weather.

Cut a few panels out of mdf to start working on the rear seat delete.
