Sound dampening door panels, Really worth it?
So I'm getting a 4-Channel amp for my speakers and a sub in the future. I am thinking of getting some dampening material for the front doors while we do the install but I am not sure if it will make a big difference.
I really see no point in buying the stuff unless there is a massive difference, No sense spending $100 on b-quiet or something if there is only a slight difference. I am thinking it would help out with bass, But I have never heard a system with dampening material installed so I honestly have no idea. If anyone can enlighten me, Please do so. unless you properly deaden the living hell out of your doors, and seal them off properly, there will not be a significant difference thru my experience.
i will add though, that when done PROPERLY, there is a reward in the end. i would use deadener on the trunk lid and rear deck (if needed). |
my car door is sealed from factory.. but my mids sounded like tin until i added some sound deadning. need a little more work but the sound is much better.. and i do have better midbass. and the tin sound is gone due to the resonant frequency of the inner door is lowered
add some treated egg crate foam behind the mid. like 1sq ft or the whole door ur choice.. thats my next move for next spring |
You seem proud of your choice in Morel speakers. Why compromise their sound with a half-ass install? Simply bolting speakers to the metal surface will return the worst results.
Are you going to make your subbox out of 1/4" wood? Why not, it's cheaper and it just holds the woofer in, right? If you are going to deaden anything, the front doors is the place to do it. |

FWIW, I spent about 120 bucks on deadener and couldn't be happier with the results. The road noise was knocked way down, the doors slam shut a lot nicer, and the mid-bass is impressive.
Sure its a lot of work, but I'd have done the deadener even if I wasn't putting new speakers in, it just makes the car more pleasurable to drive. |

if you ever wonder why that speaker in your door doesn't sound like it did on the showroom floor... this thread is partially addressing just that, in a car acoustic perfection is a unwinnable battle. you need to feed your system with the proper electrical system (HU, amp, wire, speakers) BUT you cant forget the other HALF of the acoustic equation and that is the car itself. Everything that reflects sound alters it, correctly control the reflection/ resonance (acoustic frontwave AND backwave of the speaker) and your speakers will sound like they were designed to.
