If something like this would work for you let me know. It is available in different gauges and either 1/2" or 3/4" holes. Its called expanded metal, and I stock it in 24 and 22 gauge steel, smaller pieces or 4' x 8' sheets if you want lots of it. PM me if interested, my business is located in Peterborough.
