Stop rattling.. ideas?
I was curious what i should use to stop rattling in my car that would be fairly inexpensive. Ive got a geo metro hatchback and some of the panels rattle on me in the back around the subs. i was gonna try some foam but i was curious what u guys say.
thanks
thanks
what we did on our car is go rattle hunting, we started at 2 hz and moved our way up the sclae until each and every rattle between 2 and 100 were completely gone. probably the only things we couldn't stop from rattling was the inside of the muffler(we eventually put a new muffler) but that's what it took to get rid of all the rattless. it took about a good long 2 weeks to get everything rattle free. i mean everything, now were rattle free

If you've got some time on your hands I would take the back area of you car apart and start with the metal, see if anything is loose or lying around. Then, take note of where the plastic panels connected. Go to the Hardware store and find some foam weather stripping. Place the weather stripping anywhere the plastic contacts the metal(If you say it's rattling already you should see the points, if any, where the plastic is touching). When putting the plastic panels back on, put more weather stripping where you can see plastic to plastic contact. Once you've put all the panel back in the car, take electrical tape and wrap it around the bolt or bolt loop that you hatch closes on to, that will also help make your trunk sound stronger.
I could have suggested other ideas to you but you mentioned the fact that you wanted it to be cheap. Well I hope that will help you in the future.

I just got 35 sq feet of brownbread... great stuff, way cheaper than dynamat, and IMO, more effective.

Great stuff. After covering the panels, you can use a spray material to get the hard to reach areas.
