Strange hum from subwoofer
 

so my system has never had this problem before, but today while I paused my music I heard this hum that I thought was someone with a loud stereo from far away. turns out its my sub. subs pretty much dead but it fills the sound so I keep it there and I'm wondering if thats the problem. I've never had a ground loop issue before but I'm wondering if they can come over time.

and its not constant. deck off obviously theres nothing, but when its on the sound comes, but only sometimes. maybe bad ground due to time? help?

could be many things .. bad rca, loose ground, or your getting transitions from mars telling u your subs suck. lol jk bro but check the other 2

I think it might be the RCAs but the ground should should be good, Peter put in another self tapper to make sure it doesn't move, I'm too lazy to check the RCAs today. when the new subs come in I'm gonna look at it all. and these subs don't suck. for kicks I ran it at full tilt and it still sounds awesome minus the knocking.

soooooooo, now that I actually tried to fix this I figure I give a little update. rarely do I get the hum, but when I power the deck off there is a thump that I don't like. so I tried swapping the rca's today. Well, first I pulled my old ones and thought I found the problem when I took apart the plugs and resoldered it, but no luck. then I swapped the cables but turns out the plugs are too big to fit both into the deck. but I then tried running two cables as far away from the power cable as and still no luck. so I tried the old ones again, but this time with a ground loop isolator, and it worked! but, when it played at the same level as before it was as if the gains were turned wayyyyy down, like it was filtering out the bass. so this has drawn me to the conclusion that it is not the rcas but the ground, but everything seems to be tight and secure. so I'm stumped again. anyone have any suggestions on how to stop a turn off thump? I'm thinking making a new ground but I want to rule out everything else first. all help will be appreciated

crap, it is a Pioneer lol. I would turn it down but the knob is literally at 0, I wanna get enough of a battery bank going before I turn it up. plus I'm scared its going to break my windows.

anyways, how do I ground the rca cable? the only thing I can think of is wrap some wire somehow around the outer shield on both plugs (or place the wire on the inside of the shield and then plug it in) and then ground the wire...correct? I know I've pictures somewhere on how to do it but I can't for the life of me remember where. Gosh I hope this works.

I'm still thinking I should move the amp ground just to be safe
