sub box and big 3 help
sub box and big 3 help
hello there just had a quick question with my sub box install
I went to install my subwoofer into my box by drilling the holes for the screws, I mis aligned one of the holes so I had to make a second hole, now because this is a "sealed" enclosure, air can escape through this hole when I push on the cone...should I seal this some how or will it not be a problem??
also I did the two grounds for my big 3 today
the only free bolt that would fit my ring terminals for a engine block ground was a valve cover bolt..will this be a safety issue?
any input is appreciated
thanks
Mike

quick and easy way is to get a drywall screw and just screw it in to fill the hole. You can put some wood glue or silicon on the thread to help seal the screw into the wood. It may not look good or may not be noticeable if you have black carpeting on the box but it will do the job.

You can also use a wooden dowl and hammer it in the hole making sure it is slightly bigger than the hole you drilled so it gets compressed into the hole then just cut the excess off when you get enough in the hole.

The extra hole for the driver should seal up as soon as you mount the driver, depending how far off the mark it is. I usually pre-drill the speaker screw holes and then carpet the box before mounting the drivers, the carpet would also help seal the hole in this situation.
I don't think the valve cover bolt is an ideal location, it's not like there is gasoline flowing thru the cover or anything but the quality of the ground connection could be better.
Is there another point you can use by getting a different size ring terminal?

im not sure ill see if i can find a better spot..
anyways if I cant get this sealed will it affect the sound quality much from the sub?
also had a quick question
I ordered a knu concepts amp kit, but there is not enough of the 12 gauge ofc speaker cable for both my front speakers
I have some 14 gauge cca speaker wire
if I ran one side 12 gauge copper and the other side 14 gauge cca..would I see a difference in sound or volume?

The difference in wire size is not an issue.
