Sub install - Sub / Rear preout

Sub install - Sub / Rear preout
I will be adding a sub to my current set up as soon as I receive my amp...
In the mean time I have been reading up on how I will be integrating it with my existing equipment. The problem I ran into was that my HU (Kenwood DNX 5140) only has Front and switchable Rear / Sub RCA Pre Outs.
Therefore as I understand it I have a couple options....
1) Use the output RCA's on my existing JBL 4 channel AMP for the new mono Sub amp - losing the ability to control the sub through the HU -
OR
2) Switch the HU rear pre out to SUB and have the rear speakers powered by the HU solely (no longer by the 4 channel JBL amp) - this would give me control of the sub, but I wonder about the performance of the rear speakers.... -
Are these my only options?
Is one the better option? Or does it just come down to personal preference (Sub control from HU or not)
Also, I do not think the 4 channel JBL amp with the Pre out has a crossover for that preout. Is this a problem? The alpine amp for the sub will have a LPF....

THIS IS WHAT YOU NEED TO GO BETWEEN THE JBL'S OUTPUT AND THE ALPINE'S INPUT TO CONTROL THE LEVEL.

1: Does the Alpine come with a remote level (or gain) control
2: Is the preout on the JBL affected by fading the signal front to rear?
Assuming the answers are Yes and No, here's what I would suggest: Run both sets of RCAs to the JBL F+R inputs, use the preout to feed the Alpine and the remote **** and it's LPF to control sub level.
If you have to use the rear output on the deck for the sub amp, you can still use the JBL to run all 4 corners, you will just lose the ability to adjust your fader on the fly.
Keeping all of your speakers amplified makes for better sound.....if you need to wire the amps differently to compensate for control issues so be it....

I'm running a 5120 with the same options... I say keep the subwoofer control and if you really want the rear fill, then wire up your green/purple speaker outputs to the high level inputs on your amp... this way when you go into your crossover menu to select the frequency cut, your fronts, rears and subs will all be selectable... the price you pay by not paying the full price (1800 yikes!!)

2. I have no if it is effected by the Fader....
this seems to be the simplest solution (to have the sub amp go through the JBL preout).
Is there anyway to find out if the pre out is affected by the Fader..
What does that really even mean!?!?!

Only use the front pre-out to the 4-channel amp. There should be an input select switch for it. Then run the other pre-out to the sub.
You will lose fade control at the deck but it will still exist at the amp.
This is the exact same thing that big red said just in different words.

Now you will have all fader controls/sub control and the abilitly to change crossover points actively from your 5140 keep it simple... don't lose out on functions that you paid for..

Am I correct in thinking I need to go from the purple/green wire to the RCA rear input on the amp?

you are correct as long as you have LOC line output converter . that will convert your decks 4 ohm output to a higher impedance output that your amplifier can handle without damaging the input circuitry .
you should have green +/green black - and purple +/purple black - as rear speaker outputs... if you choos ethis route just install the LOC behind the deck... they dont take up much space...
