hi all, i have a question about having a sub in a trunk of a sedan.

i have a 98 4dr civic and will be putting a sub in the trunk. i have a pair of 6x9 on the rear shelf as rear fill.

now my question is, will the sub not sound as loud being sealed inside the trunk? if so, what can i do?

if i have the sub pounding in the trunk, will the pressure from the pounding sub blow the 6x9 since i would guess popping the 6x9 would be the easiest way the pressure could escape.

sorry if it's been asked before since the search didnt turn up anything for me.

thanks

How much power will you be putting to the sub?
I've never heard of a sub blowing 6x9s.
A sub can make rear speakers sound crappy because of pressure, but can't do damage.
If you are concerned about 6x9 sound, make small enclosures for them.

Your trunk is not sealed. There are all kinds of holes / leak points throughout the trunk. With that being said, your sub will get louder when you fold the rear seats down. In answer to your question: You are correct. The sub will not be as loud in the trunk with the seats up. That being said, where else would you put it?

i'm just afraid that the preesure will damage the 6x9s.

i just need some suggestions on getting some bass into the cabin without folding down the rear seats.

Ive been told that can happen, if nothing else it will distort the sound coming from them.

I have a 97 Civic. I took mine out and the bass got louder since it opens it up into the cabin a little better.
...not that I could actually hear them over my front components anyways...

Sell the rear fill and put the money into really good front stage speakers. Give them lots of power and then leave the rear holes empty.

Voila, the car sounds better and it has more bass efficiency.

thanks people for your comment, i want to keep the 6x9 so if anyone riding in the back wont be left with only the bass from the sub, though not too many people would ride in the back anyway.

i am thinking about drilling some holes in the rear deck like what Rockney suggested and hopefully what would improve the loudness from the sub but i dont think i could try that until the weather warms up again, whenever that will be.

thanks again

If your front stage is loud enough people in the back can still hear it.

That's the theory at least.
