Subs Installed in the Spyder
I have finally gotten rid of the sub boxes that I had sitting on the back seat of the Spyder.
The subs are now located in one larger box built to speaker specs. The back seat rest foam was cutout to allow room for the new box to fit in. A wooden frame was built around the opening to allow the sub box to be fastened to.
It worked out perfect as the thickness of the back rest was just over 3 inches, and the sub box is 3 inches thick. The subs are Earthquake SW-8
I took a couple of installed pics so that you get an idea. I have it painted black, but the plan is to paint the grill cover the same colour as the car.

My back seat never gets used for passengers. At first I had the subs completely hidden behind the cloth, however, I thought if someone was to ever throw something in the back seat, there was the possibility of damaging a sub.

^^^^ I am taking your response as being facetious, which is cool. I understand that this in no way compares with some of the very slick installs that you perform.
I do realize that I won't get the big huge bass that many who frequent this board are looking for. Being a 43 year old guy, my musical tastes do not include the latest from "fitty cent". I tend to listen to more classic rock style music....and adding a bit more bass, then what my front component set supplies suits me fine.
My reasons for posting it up was that it may give other newer members something to consider if they have a sports car with an un-usable back seat, and I was proud of the job.

I'm glad you are proud of your work. And I am just shy of 35 so "fitty cent" does not exist in my library either
I was shocked that you actually cut right through your seatback. Even though it may be 'unusable' as you say, that is still pretty drastic you must admit. When I was reading the text I assumed you hollowed the seat, fired the woofers to the rear, and left the front fabric uncut. As mentioned, the picture shocked me.
Also, to date, it is only the second time I have ever seen someone do that. The other was a '79 Camaro with 2 15s literally floating in the foam of the seat. I will concede that you did a better job than he did.

Actually, at first I did exactly what you had envisioned. I had two problems with it. The first being if the woofers went to full excursion, they would hit the cloth. The second, was my wife on rare occasions will drive the car.
She has a habit of firing stuff into the back seat. The thought of a purse flying into a woofer didn't sit well with me.
I am already in the process of getting a spare seat back. If I ever decide to sell the car (highly doubtful) or if my audio setup changes, I can throw in the replacement.
Thanks guys for all your opinions!!
