Sweet new head unit wont work!

Hi guys, I've been having some major problems installing this Head unit and I was hoping for some sound advice. I recently bought a JVC KW-NX7000 ( http://www.mobile.jvc.com/product.jsp?modelId=MODL028308&pathId=126&page=3 ) and am trying to install it on my own. I have installed several cd/dvd player units in the past but i just cant seem to get this sucker to work for me.

I started off by soldering all of the connections on the wiring harnesses together and am fairly confident i did the job right, but whenever i plug in the deck, you can hear it sort of power up inside, but it wont turn on. I press every button on the front and they are all unresponsive.

The only button that does anything is the Open button, which when pressed will power up the unit, turn on the screen, and pring me to the "open" function menu screen, which will allow me to (via touchscreen) open the face, eject the disc, or detach the face. everything of those features works just fine, but if i try to press any other buttons on the deck it simply powers off and sits there. not responding to anything even when a disc is insterted.

Like i said I have installed several cd players but nothing of this caliber of equipment and i would greatly appreciate any sort of opinion or suggestions that you have. btw some of the info is it is a 2006 Sierra with stock radio (not bose). the only lead wire on the stock harness i am not using is the dimmer, which doesnt have a lead on the radio.

Thanks in advance!

checked fuses, all good. Red wire is connected to the other red wire on the factory harness adapter.

...and that's likely the problem. Most post 2000 GM vehicles do not have an active ignition wire (red) at the radio. You need to locate your own ignition source or go buy a GMCO adaptor that will simulate an ignition feed and restore your door chimes as well. Plus GM contends that many models may experience problems if the factory head unit is removed and not replaced by something like the GMCO.

also, if i can just tap off of fuse panel, what is the best way to do so? I'd rather try this before buying a 150 dollar adapter.

get direct power from battery with a small 20 or 25amp fuse inline.

got 'er going. had to buy a ATO fuse clip for the mini fuse. stole power right off the stereo acc fuse and now all is well. no 150 dollar adapter needed.
thanks for all of your input!

just for information. if you get in a crash and do not have a gmco you are in risk of not havin your airbags/abs work as well as your door chimes not working. (and there will be no warning light that these are not working)
insurance can also refuse to cover you in an accident situation because you do not have the piece.

it sounds like you gave the ignition constant 12v . thus your deck would be running constantly .. the ignition acts as a trigger. when the trigger is not there its off.. when the trigger is there its on. just make sure that whateveer you tapped off for the red wire is ignition power and not 12v constant> yellow on your harness.

the gmco doesn't just do door chimes it's ALL warning chimes as in headlights on low fuel, low oil, etc.And it's accesory that's missing not ignition. It also provides a healty status back to the computer as well as retaining your RAP feature. Yes it's $150 but your asking for all kinds of problems when it comes to warrenties. It also controls part of the onstar as well. If you don't have one cause you can run into trouble with your air bags. If the seat belt chime isn't there it may see a fault in the system and since the seat belt is part of the PRS(passenger restraint system) it may or may not disable the airbags. It's also true what dan_seguin90 says about the insurance as well.
