I was on here a lot when the site first opened (this new one anyway) and a bit through the old board. But lately I've not been working on my stereo so I haven't frequented as much. Thanks. I frequent JCO more.

Front part as in the piece that sits closest to the windshield that is notorious for cracking in jbody's or ? Specify a bit more for me, I might be able to help. My interior is in pieces still right now as i'm wiring up some other things lol

Front part as in where you adjust the heat and stuff. It's directly infront of you when you are in the car. So like the front consol...

Also, a regular 7mm socket will not fit because of tight spaces. What else could I use? Going to install tomorrow so I just need all the right tools first .

Or specifically how do you take the hvac out ?

If you're talking about what I circled, it's all one piece. And the how to is here with photos included Team Forward Motion Online

You have to take out a bolt on each corner side of the dash, the side panels pop off so you can get at them. Open the glove box there's about 3-4 in there including the 2 brass bolts for the passenger airbag, make sure you do NOT drop or lose these bolts they're very important, you'll need an extender to get the socket in there. The one I always forget is in the dash vent on top. Once you have all those just pull and the top dash will come off, it's snapped in place above the cluster.

Next you'll see about 3-4 more bolts holding down the piece I have in the photo above, once you remove all those just pull, the bottom portion that I circled is clipped into the dash. If you have a foglight/dimmer switch just push in and it'll pop out, cigarette lighter you'll have to unclip from the back (always a problem for me but supposed to be easy lol). And voila it should now be in your hands whether you're standing outside of the car holding it or sitting in one of the seats holding it lol.

Hope this helps.

I think I only needed the 7mm socket for this as well. But the bf recently bought me my own set for my car lol
