I drive one of the tinniest vehicles on the road (next to a Neon anyways); a '94 Beretta. It has enuf power to push around a few more kgs of weight so it's time to quiet her down.

I have replaced my door seals and the 'whistling' is gone. Now it's primarily (from what I can gather) wheel/road noise and general wind noise over the outside of the vehicle.

Since my vehicle is a GM, I want to try and salvage all the parts that they decided NOT to rustproof by undercoating them anyways (like, rubberized stuff ... apparenlty the stuff that can be applied with a 'Shutz' gun??). However, talking with Dukk it's a little messy ... but that's not my concern. My main concerns are as follows:
1. Which will take more time (MAT vs. Undercoating)
2. Which will work better (reducing outside noise)

I will be deadening the doors with some form of MAT anyways because I "BELIEVE" I am putting 3-ways in the doors (I have the parts, I am just not sure if I want to sacrifice my door panels to the whim of my cutting ability).

As a random aside, anyone know what to do to 'seal' a door when a vehicle has a seatbelt in the door instead of on the pillar? Why GM did this is completely beyond me ... it's rather annoying.

i believe that undercoating will be faster we did it with a frineds supra went fairly fast. But i've found so far that the stuff you buy in the can of sounddeadener has not nearly half the efficiency of the matting its just not substantial enough. There is a material you can get form piercey's i believe or any other major building supply people that is called (ice shield) I think that is what its called anyways. It extremely similar to dyanamt and is way way cheaper. Used it in a ford probe and worked really well.

Buy carpet underlay. Go to HomeDepot and buy the 3/4" thick stuff. It is like $20 for a huge sheet that would prolly do 1 layer on your car.

I have this stuffed in all my panels, under my carpet, and in my roof. It makes everything quiet. But I also have sound deadning spray and dynomat in those places too... but the mat will help regardless of the extra stuff I have.

I have doubled up the pocket-lint looking stuff under my carpet (factory deadening). It helped, but it has a limit. My Corsica had 3 layers under there; that was a pain in the butt.

Dukk already warned me about the rattle-can stuff, because it sucks; this I know. But, the crap u buy in the tub is apparently thick so it does a far better job. Looks like I will be doing the spray as my car has nothing underneath as far as deadening/anti-rust goes.

Try Xterminator, from GCA, great stuff, works as an undercoat, sound deadener, and all around PERFECT product for your car. I'm sure Perfect tones would help you out.

Stuff's expensive ... but if it's going to do the job right then I will be picking some up.

I have a claim in process with GCA (not their fault) so I have to deal with him again anyways.
