Use cab as sub box?

Use a gore tex type material that will allow air flow but no water or dirt to get at the sub or into the truck. If you are careful cutting the holes you can always weld them back to go back to stock.

Something I have seen done before that you might want to try is this.

Use the back wall of your cab as the back of the box. Build the front, top, bottom, and sides as you would normally. Leave the front off, silicone/fiberglass the top, bottom, and sides to the back wall. If possible, screw into the cab from between the box and the cab into the mdf. Then use deadener spray on the inside back wall. Cut your holes in the front plate and mount the front plate. Then silicone/fiberglass that seam through the speaker holes. Mount your subs, and away you go.
