Voltage question!!

okay so i was looking at amps one night to kill time! and i noticed this particular amp

Adassa Audio The Warlord

1 x 1600W @ 4 ohm
1 x 2700W @ 2 ohm
1 x 3400W @ 1 ohm (12V)
1 x 5000W @ 1 ohm (14V)
1 x 5900W @ 1 ohm (16V)
1 x 7500W @ 1 ohm (18V)

i guess my main question is how would one get 16 or even 18v to that amp? like how would you have to use a bigger alternator and more bbateries? or some kind a fanzy terminal thing??

the most practical way would be a different alternator designed for 18v, 16 volt batteries and a step down unit so you dont blow your in car electronics by putting too much voltage to them.

its not more batteries or 16v batteries. you would most likely requre a bank of 8v batteries connected in series which would give you 16v. you get 18v by charging the out of the 16v battery bank.

AND you may have to separate the car audio electrical system (16v) from the cars electrical system (12v). Some cars like mine will blow up their electrical brains if I shoot them 14v so if you want to do this $$$$ is needed. I dont know where to get a step down system like Dietz mentioned for a cars electrical system that can produce 100 amps (you will need to power car starting, heat, AC, etc. ) so do this at your own risk

Big vehicles may allow you to mount an extra alternator that produces 16v and this would be solely for the audio system. Remember you will need lots of 0 gauge wire for this single or double runs from + AND- to the amp and dont forget the battery bank Yuli mentioned just to power the 16V system for the stereo so you dont have to worry about damaging computers, etc. This will set you back somewhere around $600-1000 minimum and will fill any cargo area your vehicle had. It is a bargain if you are serious about SPL

Additional 8v batteries, additional custom built 18 volt alternator, a completely independent 18 volt electrical system (as not to damage the car's systems)???

Geez man, buy TWO amps that are happy with 14 volts!

Ugh.

lol ya i guess getting to amps that work at 14v would be better also! but then again i was just wondering how one would achieve such great amouts of power if one ever needed to get say 18volts!

thanks for your reply BIGEVIL

you dont really use 18volts for music so you dont need a 18v alternator. 16-18v are all spl application ratings. all you need is a bank of 8v batts and a good charger. you wouldnt even turn the car on when you play it.
