Well got the holes cut, and installed the flush mount tweeters at the top of the doors today. Also went to town on the door skins in preparation for a F/G pod build out. Also needed an extra 1/2" baffle / spacer to clear the window. It is now 1 1/4" thick and too far out to fit under the plastic now as I had clearance issues before. So having planned on doing pods anyway, out came the jigsaw. LOL Really happy with the shape of the opening. Should look nice with an angled pod facing the M/B at the dome light. Covered in black vinyl. Since I know better than to talk about install work without pics .....

Close up of big hole on passenger side. Drew out the hole freehand first. A few tweaks til I was happy with the radius of the curves. Then cut it out and used the cutout as the template for the other side...

Drivers side with the grill on for protection. Extremely happy with the shape and symmetry of the holes. Pods should look awesome when done...

This is the way it will be for now. At least I don't have to worry about tearing another surround up, which was the reason I cut the holes now...

Did a little testing with tweeter placement and determined that it improved a wee bit with them on the dash at the A pillar pointed direct at the dome light. But the extra work to install them there was just not worth the very little difference it actually made. Would have needed to make pods as it is very curved right where I wanted them. No way to flush mount there. Let me know what you think, will have pics up as soon as F/G starts.

A kilowatt of power for those comps should be crazy loud......a round of deadener for the doors will make a huge difference to the sound and cost a lot less $$$ than adding another pair and having to deaden the doors at that point anyways.....

How do the tweeters sound mounted like that? I'm still trying to figure out what to do when I'm going to put some in.

Can your tweeters pivot within the mount?

Nope, strictly flat flush mount. BigRedGuy and I both held onto one and moved them around to see where they sounded best. Really any higher and they started to audibly separate from the M/B as they are in the very bottom of the doors. When image, sound, and ease of installation were all carefully considered I just stuck them there. LOL Right now center stage is directly in front of the driver and out at the windshield. Far right is about middle of dash, and far left sounds a foot outside the door. LOL It really kinda screws with your head if you really concentrate on it as the music doesn't come from anywhere near the speakers. LOL I am going to try to scrape the cash together to do SQ at the show next week here and see how it does.

Coming from the guy who makes the fuggliest sub boxes I've ever seen, I'll take that as a compliment.....

Those drivers are working very well in those doors, I'm sure the pretty factor will be up to your standards soon.....

See you next weekend....
