What do use to mount?

Hello again all,

Some of you have helped me a bit over the last little while and for that I am grateful. However, in true leecher fashion, I ask for more help yet again.

I have decided to go against components for the front of my car. Instead, I was thinking of trying out the Sony 4way XSV1642A for the front AND in the back. Why? Cause Sony products have always been reliable for me in the past, both in car and home audio/video. As well, I dont want to blow a huge wad on my car audio and these are on sale at Crappy Tire in Ottawa for 69.99. Seems a pretty sweet deal.

Now, in my Mazda Tribute, I have 6x8's in the front and rear. These Sony's are 6.5" round.

I dont want to say "best" as that term is over used, but are some of the ideal ways to mount these? Obviously I have to fabricate some sort of mounting plate (I would think so anyway). What should I use for that?

As well, give the stock speaker size and what I want to put in, will I need to do any modifications to the stock speaker hole? I would think not.

Any help and/or suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

MDF is a good choice to make adaptors.

A suggestion: you might want to contact some of this site's vendor's to see what they can offer you on some good sounding replacement speakers and as well check out the classifieds section.

Before I went and purchased Sony speakers ((friends don't let friends buy Sony) especially for car)), then going through the time and money making adaptors, why not install a replacement size speaker? The number of ways in a speaker make no difference at all, one is not better than the other. It is the quality of the speaker you choose that makes the difference.

Friends dont let friends buy Sony .. lol ... I like it :P

Hmm .. well, I wouldnt consider myself an expert in this field but I know a bit. So correct me in any areas that you deem worthy.

I havent seen all that many 6x8 speakers. As well, the ones that I have seen have all been 2 way. Now I just assumed that a 4 way speaker (or even a 3 way) would naturally sound better than a 2 way, given that there is an additional frequency range in a 3 way.

As well, the 6x8's that I have seen have all been rather costly. I went to Future Shop (yes yes, I know) and they didnt have any MTX stock. They mostly had Infinity. Now I know that Infinity has great products, but $249 for a set of speakers (and I gotta buy two) is way out of my range.

Hence why I was looking at the Sony's. As I said, I have always had very good experience with Sony. Their quality cant be THAT bad and the price is right. I realize its all about quality .. but price is also a consideration for me. So its a "most bang for the least buck" type thing. Which isnt ideal, but hey .. single dad living alone .. gotta make some sacrifices

FS should have Pioneer 5x7 as well as Infinity.

Clarion makes a really nice 5x7 / 6x8 plate speaker - not sure where you can get a set but worth looking for.

The speaker only reproduces what it is given. Give it a full range signal and the speaker reproduces it. There is no more extra frequencies reproduced in a 4 way speaker as compared to a 2 or 3. It is just split differently. Some of the best speakers made are 2 way component speakers for that matter.

Pioneer does indeed make some rather good and (cough PM for a deal cough) inexpensive 5x7" speakers that will fit your vehicle just fine. Eclipse makes some fine speakers as well. It all depends on the investment that you would like to make.

Why not focus a little more money on your front speakers for somethin with a little better quality and get nothing for the rears or somethin basic like the sonys rear fil is over rated and I very seldom recomend my customers waste their money on rear fill just basic coax's or components to compliment the fronts but by no means equall to the front. In a properly imaged system the rears are not really heard

Well that was originally going to be the plan. Really good speakers in the front, replace the rear speakers with something NOT stock but nothing high end .. just something for the rear people. And then a sub in the back.

But, after some research, I have found that the sub option isnt going to work for me. If I do a regular box, Im taking away from cargo space, which I dont want. I researched doing a fiberglass box in the spare tire well but its RATHER costly. On top of the cost for the amp and the sub itself, it will be too much.

So, the only speakers I will have are the 4 inside the car and eventually a decent 4 channel amp bumping them up a bit (something like a 400.1 et al).

So, thats why Im looking at replacing all 4 interior speakers. I cant afford "high end" stuff. I would LOVE to be able to though. Again, single dad living alone ... priorities. The little dude gets almost everything so whats leftover is for big papa
