So you would say Massive makes bad amps?

I'm considering 2 Alpine v12 4chan and a boston 2chan.
I'm going to have 4inch dash speakers, 6inch front door speakers with crossover, 6inch rear door speakers if I can't find 8s in a thin woofer. Then the shelf in my sedan 5x7 if not 6s. In the trunk 2 10inch

quality quality quality, but I saw a bunch of interesting amps around and not sure if I should vear from my plan?

your getting into too many speakers for good quality. Simple rules the day. I'd do a 3 way component set in yuor car. 4" and tweets on the dash. 6.5" Midbass i the doors. and just do some coax's on the rear deck for fill if you insist on having back speakers.

A dedicated SQ setup has enough speakers to produce the required frequencies, no more, no less. More important than sheer quantity of speakers is placing and aiming what you have. If you can't articulate why you need a certain speaker in a specific spot than you probably don't need it. And I can't really figure out why some manufactures even offer stock drivers on the rear deck except because '8 speaker premium sound' sounds better than '4 or 6 speaker premium sound.' Other than that I see absolutely no use for them in an SQ setup.

Really, what good are speakers that fire towards the roof/rear window of the car.

I find rear speakers help to "fill" the car with sound. If I fade all the way to the front, it still sounds really good, just not as "full". I don't know, but I think that's due to the 6.5's and 6x9's having their own nuances that make them play the same sound, slightly different. All the speakers are MBQ, front are Reference, and the rears are Discus. That being said, if I were to do it all over again, I wouldn't have purchased rear speakers, and either went a level up on the fronts, or bought something better than a Kenwood amp.

I agree, I have rear fill too bt you could never tell it's there just by listening. It adds things in a pleasing way without being to obvious. But specifically I have always believed rear deck speakers are a waste.

"Really, what good are speakers that fire towards the roof/rear window of the car."

actually many believe that rear speakers should never be directed towards the front listener(s). This tends to draw the image rearward. Having the rear speakers reflect their sound off of the roof or rear window tends to avoid this, and can actually improve the ambiance of the system by increasing the distance from the drivers. Some, including myself, have actually mounted rear speakers backwards to directly reflect off the rear window with very good results. Tweeters or upper midrange benefit from this treatment in particular. This may be frowned upon by the SQ purists, but I much prefer my systems with rear speakers than without...and so do my passengers.

Interesting. Mine hit the rear window at an angle that sends it straight forward. Which was to angle them slightly backwards to hit the window right. I turned them off today to see the difference, at it really seems like something is missing in a very harsh way. I guess I'm not looking for perfect quality, just a higher than normal. I'm going to fiberglass the back self with a custom cyclops breaklight and have the speakers just right.... eventually.
