Is that anything like a soldering gun?

Any and every electrical supply sells butt splices for 4 ga. for pennies.

Or you can use two 4.99 gold plated crimp ring lugs from any car stereo shop and bolt them together.

I have had this issue in several of my previous setups. I always ended up using a fuse block as a "coupler" for the 2 lengths of 4 gauge. I had the same issue again in my latest car and decided i wanted this setup to be a bit cleaner so i just bought a new length of 4 gauge that was long enough. Soldering 4 gauge wire "works", but i personally wouldnt bother. Just make sure if you do, you cover that soldered section with either some decent wrap or coat that puppy in a good layer of electrical tape. Last thing you need is a bare spot in the cable. Bare spot = grounding out = red glowing wires/damage to electrical components = fire = possible injury or death. lol
I personally would hate the idea of an audio forum member being injured by his own hobby. Especially if it could have easily been avoided.

Lightbulb

I'd love to have one of these killer soldering irons you guys must have. I have yet to have any soldering iron or gun do even a pathetic job soldering 4ga or larger wire together. They don't throw enough heat.

Bare 3/4-1" of wire on each cable. 'Push" these together end to end so that they intermesh with eachother and work the joint so that it's neat. Use a mini-torch to heat the area and feed solder into the joint. After it cools, tape the hell out of it and then add some loom and tape the hell out of that too.

actually if you plan to solder them, use a torch and solder. The torch will get the copper wire hot enough to fuse the solder in a bit more. Keep in mind this also means the shielding around the wire is going to melt down alot and leave alot of copper showing. I still think you are better off with a fuse block or just replacing the length of wire with something that fits properly.
