Wiring a "CRUNCH PERFORMANCE PLUS" Sub.
 

Hey guys, my Uncle gave me a sub and an amp, so I've been looking at getting it set up.

The sub is a "Crunch Performance Plus", and it's pretty old. I can't find any specs on it, but I'm pretty sure it's not too powerful.

The amplifier is the Pioneer GM X334, and has 4 channels. This amplifier is also pretty old :ohwell:

Anyway, I was wondering if I could somehow focus all or most of the power of the amplifier to just the sub.

I was also curious of how to wire the sub. I know it seems kind of trivial, but the sub has two little tabs. I'm assuming that I can slip on the wire to one of them, and fold the other tab on top of it, but I'm not 100% sure.

To get the most out of your amp you will want to bridge CH 1 and 2 together for 140W Peak at 4Ohm. You then need to verify the impedance of your sub if it is single/dual voice coils and 2/4/8 Ohm coils. Model number if available would be helpful. or meter the voice coils.

Your statement is very confusing on that you say the sub has "2 little tabs" and you want to fold the one tab over the other. Did you mean 2 sets of tabs or 2 total on the sub. if there is only 2 then touching them together would be a short.

Please post a picture of the connectors as that would be helpful.

I'll have to look into how to bridge the channels together then.

The sub basically has very little information on it, even online (specifications). What do I need to check the voice coils?

It looks like the wiring inside the box is already setup with the proper connector to fit up to the sub. You should be able to slip the female connector on the wires directly to 1 of the male tabs on the sub. If you find that they are a little loose you can always use some pliers to tighten up the fit.

Just make sure that the red wire is connected to the (+) coil on the sub and also to the Red or (+) terminal on the side of the box. and same for the black to (-). Then you just have to wire from your amp to the terminals on the side of the box.

I found a forum of a guy with specs for a Crunch Woofer CR104 and he states that it is 4 Ohm. I don't like guessing specs so if you could place an ohm meter across the terminals on the sub then it would give you the impedance.

To bridge the amp you should see 4 Ch's on your amp each with a (+) and (-) terminal. just wire the (+) of Channel 1 to the (+) of your sub voice coil, and then run the (-) of Channel 2 to the (-) of your sub voice coil.

If you connect the sub to that amp without verifying the impedance, and if it turns out it is lower then 4Ohm you could damage the amplifier and the sub, so i would verify the sub is a 4Ohm impedance before making any connections.

I'll have to check out the impedance, and will post back when I get the results. This will be an ongoing thread with questions as I go along. I don't think I'll need anymore help, but we'll see.
