Wiring Help
Hi, this question might be dumb but here goes anyways. I was up at my old garage today, and theres a guy that works there (my old boss) who i was showing my system to. Hes been installing random stereos in his own car and buddys cars for at least 15 years now.
Anyways he told my that my wiring on my subs was wrong, he said if i run inverted subs that i must hook up my - to + and my + to -.
Now i was under the impression that you just wire a sub normal in all cases, if there both in the same direction(as in both inverted or both not inverted), and that you switch one around if you run one inverted and one normal, just to keep them in phase.
So i geuss my question is, do i switch these wires all around or is it fine where its at?
Is there that big a diffrence (if any) to switching them around to run the other way?
Sorry if this sounds confusing just trying to clear this up, and i tried explaining it the best i could. Thanks for your time.

In theory your friend is right. In practice not many can hear the difference.
If you don't reverse the polarity on the subs, they will be out of phase with the rest of the speakers. But since most of the other speakers are putting out mids and highs - not bass - you likely won't hear cancellation, but the cancellation is happening, its just so small that no one cares. I've played with it myself (using an amp with a phase switch) and I could tell there was a slight difference, but couldn't pin point what the difference was or which sounded better.
Ultimately it would make a difference in an SQ system since you would try and blend your midbass and subs as seamlessly as possible. And since its SQ you wouldn't have super loud subs either, drowning out everything else. But for dily driving, no difference.

Seems to me if they were both pushing or pulling in the same direction at the same time... he'd notice a significant difference. I could be mistaken, I've never run two subs where one is inverted...
The situation you're referring to... it's true, it's hard for the average listener to notice any difference at all...
