Just another newbie with an audio challenge - 1990 Miata

So, I have a 1990 Miata along with some "period correct" gear (read: some stuff that got tossed in a box when I sold the last Miata 15 years ago). Basically, some Alpine DDD 6.5" components and a RF 160x4 amp. The rest took a walk :(

The basic plan is going to be components plus some sort of sub arrangement. Pretty much have only three options - a box on the shelf behind the seats, subs mounted in the shelf (infinite baffle), or a box in the trunk.

Leaning towards doing the IB in the parcel shelf since I don't want another sub box stolen from the car, and I don't really want to give up my trunk and/or spare tire.

Previously, I ran the 160x4 as 3 channels, using a single 8" in a sealed box on the rear deck. Components were more than loud enough for top-down driving.

I'm wondering what the current thought is in relative power between my front channels and my sub(s), and what running free air means in terms of power needs.

Any thoughts, especially for those who have tried to pull a little bass from a smallish convertible?
