As off this morning, Alberta government paid off the last 3.7 billion dollars of it's provincial debt.

I am sick of all the naysayers. Klein did a remarkable job running the province. This "he overtaxed people" crap is gettinig on my nerve. As individuals we pay very little compared to some provinces in income tax. Or the "with the amount of oil money anyone could have did it" stuff. Sorry but that is not necessarily true. Alberta is officially going to be public enemy number one in Ottawa's eyes now. Without having to be taxed just to service the debt repayments we can expect numerous benefits. Just imagine if you were debt free, what could you do? Well we (Alberta) could now lower taxes, give more to charity, spend more on education and health care. Of course Ottawa will now attempt to leach off Alberta's prosperity like they did with the NEP in the 70's when the Liberals were in power.

Don't think Alberta owed Ottawa a dime. </font>[/QUOTE]Exactly, Alberta pays into the transfer fund every year that gets distributed to the eastern provinces, mostly the maritimes. I have no problem with transfer payments to other provinces, we should definately share our prosperity with the rest of Canada, but when Ottawa makes a huge grab of money that's basically illegal, that makes me mad.
