Is there a prison in Alberta? near Calgary? (one that is still in full use) thinking of what to do when i graduate college

Both are maximum security i believe....federal time baby.

 

That would be such a lousy job. Didn't you see monsters ball? I think they really get you down.

 

I saw Monsters Ball and I also wrote essays on her when i was in high school for law classes. When you work in a prision u also get hazard pay, I used to work with someone that worked in a prison and said it was good pay.

Are those prisons located anywhere near Calgary? Sorry Im not from Alberta so I've no idea where they are.

 

It's tough deciding what your going to do. I just graduated in June and am drifting for the moment it seems...

Teri, if you were smart, you'd get your Restricted and Non Restricted firearms certificated, GAT B, and practice for the police PREP test. Nucleat plants such as Pickering and the Bruce here hire alot for security, and have a high turnover rate (since most security employees want to become OPP). the pay is amazing, you work 3 12 hr shifts a week, and get paid #35 an hour to carry an assault weapon around.

I'm going to try this route as well.

Just a thought. I'm definately thinking of a move as well.

 

Also, think of maybe applying to the casinos/slots for security positions. They pay starts off okish..but after a while it picks up. That's another route I am pursuing.

You will have alot of options in your field, I am in the same. Just keep your head up and keep your ears open for oppurtunity. Getting basic experience in your field now also helps. [img]smile.gif[/img]

Also, I have heard alot of stories of corrections officers "burning out" after 20 or so years of seeing the **** that goes on in Prisons...definately not good for the mind.
