assisted suicide

im not sure how many people have been following the schiavo case in the states if there was ever a story that would make prople look again at there views on assisted suicide it has to be this one. could you imagine, living 15 years in a slowly dying body and not being able to do anything about it, being fed through a tube to keep you alive because you cant even feed yourself and that very tube is the method by which you will die a slow and painfull death. i hope the reality of this case has made everyone here reevaluate their living wills, even if you have nothing, your will should state(if thats what you want) that you dont want to be kept alive by a feeding tube, or breathing machine of whatever. i have just amended my will to say those very things, i wouldnt want my wife and family to have to care for me for the rest of my life when there is no hope for any type of recoverey. i would expect my wife to move on as fast as she could and not waste the rest of her life caring for a comatosed or person that will live the rest of their "life" in a vegetative state. i also hope that everyone has their life insurance in order so that if something terrible was to happen that your financial obligations arent left to your family
And all those celebritys taht are making a stink about it tryingto keep this poor woman alive. It is not there concern as it is not there family member. I for one would be absolutly devestated if I had to keep my wife in that state for all these years.
She is not alive why keep her breathing?
She is not alive why keep her breathing?
I can see both sides of the arguement... on one hand, if the person has no hope to regain a life that is worth living, and is being kept alive solely by artificial means (heart/lung machine, feeding tube, whatever) for a long period of time, then there really is no point in prolonging their suffering, but if a person is in a coma, perhaps being kept alive by artificial means, but has a chance to recover, their condition should dictate what happens, for instance, a friend of my mom's was in a coma after a terrible car accident for 13 years... he had a lot of brain damage in the accident, then one day he woke up, perfectly fine, had no idea what had happend to him. However his life no longer mattered to his wife who had divorced him, the child he never even knew about (his wife was pregnant when he went into the coma and he never knew about it) was 12 years old, and thought that another man was her father, and his parents had passed away... who would want to wake up to that?
I have mixed emotions... but I know that I want a DNR (do not recussitate, and do not take heroic efforts to save my life) as soon as I have the opportunity to sign one.

I go with if your not gonna survive end it. I dont think its right that someone else can make you suffer until you die. I certainly wouldn't wanna be a vegetable for the last hours, days, months etc of my life.
However if you wrote it in your will would it still count considering Euthanasia itself is illegal. So whether you write it in there or not would it make a difference because you're still telling someone to kill you.
If you have a chance to live then I say keep you alive, if your gonna die and there's no chance you're going to survive then don't keep the patient going on life support. I don't understand why they do it, it costs tax payers money to keep a patient living like that.

You can have a DNR card anytime.
From what I've heard the fact that she is going to starve to death is actually not painful at all.
Your body basically falls asleep because of the lack of nourishment and then you die.
Not that I would want to die that way, but apparently it's not "slow and painful" as you had mentioned.
I agree with the other people that say they would want to have the plug pulled on them.
I wouldn't want my gf (or wife by then) to have to deal with that for years on end. Given the type of person she is I have no doubt that she wouldn't move on. She would wait and keep hoping I would pull out of it. I think it would be easier on her if I weren't hanging around.
