Right, but let's say you almost died and now you are lying in a hospital with mutiple fractures in a whole lot of pain. On top of that you get charged with "Attempting to Commit Suicide" and placed in a looney bin.

So if you're going to do it, better make sure you do it right!

I remember as a child in public school having to listen to bible readings and forced to sing "Jesus Loves Me" every morning when I wasn't even Christian. It bothered the hell out of me, my parents, and others around me. My parents not knowing what to do, simply lived with it. I grew up in the Downtown Eastside (Vancouver). Strathcona Elementary - 95% or more Asian and First Nations population. A lot of us were not Christian, but were basically bombarded with how some people take religion beyond something it was intended to do.

Mugen, I appreciate your putting things into perspective -- you are totally right, in the 70's, schools would just assume that everyone was christian: other religions were never acknowledged or encouraged. I will never forget watching a fellow grade 3 student assault another grade 3 student simply because he was a buddist. We like to think that such things never happen, but unfortunately they do -- preventing it starts with all of us respecting the beliefs of others, whether or not they are the same as our own.

Long ago my wife and I discussed this issue, neither one of us wants to live in a vegetative state. nuff said. Even wrote it into our wills. Parents can not over turn our wishes.

Besides I think I'd be the last one to want her to go.

</font>
sweet, arguing semantics, there's a difference between commiting and attempting to commit, you missed my point.

mugen1 Mar 27, 2005 10:19 PM

I did get your point. That's why I started my post with the word, right.

Then I went on to describe what might happen if one failed.....

Once dead, nobody can be charged.

Not too long ago a guy held up traffic on one of the bridges outside Vancouver by threatening to jump off. People were starting to yell jump, jump. He never did, but he pissed off a lot of people. I think he only got charged with mischief. I guess there wasn't enough evidence that he was really going to jump and end his life. Now if he jumped but got caught in the cables or something, he would get charged. Even then, it might be argued he slipped.

</font>
Suicide shouldn't be illegal....you're only hurting yourself, physically, nobody else,so what difference does it make to the law if you off yourself, I know, one less taxpayer....but seriously, who's life is it, ours or the law's?

Paul Niwranski Mar 28, 2005 02:43 PM

^ And once again the voice of reason. Maybe no one would be hurt if you offed yourself but most people have families that can be pretty emotionally traumatized by such an act. Imagine a child, spouce, sibling, or parent that is left wondering why even they could not have been any comfort to one that died. Tragic.

Mugen1 - you did not really piss me off and yeah I probably kneejerked myself and assumed you were aetheist and repsonded in kind. I work in an office of 11 and only two of us have any faith of any sort so I may be a little touchy.

Oh yeah - my belief in white supremacy has nothing to do with my Christianity j/k :D

Shaughn Murley Mar 28, 2005 03:03 PM

yeah, and since my sisters brother-in-law just hung himself a week ago, I know the aftermath of such an act.

Brandon Mar 28, 2005 07:34 PM

I know the aftermath of suicide too, I've had 2 friends all within the last year kill themselves....yea it sure does hurt family and friends but what is so illegal about it?

You're not hurting anyone physically like I just friggin said, I never said it didn't hurt mentally for friends and family Dukk, once again,not reading what's written,just what you want to read.....and if you are that depressed that you wanna kill yourslef, a psyciatric hospital is maybe not what you need...maybe all you need is a hug and someone to tell you that things are not that bad.

Thats what it took for me...I tried once,failed...then when I went to try again, I phoned several people,no one answered except one...that man saved my life...I had the knife in my hand at the beginning of the call and had it in the garbage by the end....

As far as the case goes....I'm kinda stuck between the 2 sides...I can see both sides...Its a tough one...
