I tried navigating their website but was unable to find an answer to my question....
What are the minimum # of hours per week to constitute full time employment? My wife's boss is looking to cut her hours back to 30 hours per week although her employment contract assures her of full-time hours. At what point does it count as part-time? Any links to printable documentation? She transfered to this job only because it was full time hours (40 per week). Her old job paid her more per hour but not as many hours. The cut in pay but the subsequent increase in hours made up for about a 25% pay increase. Which is why she took the job. A less qualified, less seniority co-worker doing the same job is still maintaining 40 hours per week. What are the options? if any? |
is this a union store or something else? Full time is constituted as 40 hours a week
|
my wifes employer tried to do something like that to her a few years ago. i made sure that our paths accindentally crossed outside of work and we came to an agreement that what he was doing was different than what he said, in other words he was going back on his word. when it was explained to him this way he looked at it a bit differently and she got not only the 40 hours she was promised, she now gets 45 hours a week. if she is under contract, maybe her boss needs to be kindly reminded of that fact by her, and if that doesnt work, than by you

35 hours is considered full time these days.

the job is not union and I appreciate the feedback. The personal approach may work.
I was hoping not to get personally involved though. I wanted something concrete, printable I could send her to work with. I wanted her to be able to take care of this issue on her own basically. It will help her with her confidence somewhat. Her manager said that she was still providing her with full-time hours....just not 40 hours per week. WTF?!? does that mean??? I need something legal that explains 4-25 hours equals part-time and 25-40 equals full time....or something like that. I wasn't sure if there was a minimum/maximum ratio. I know 40 hours is max unless overtime compensation is paid. I wanted to make sure my wife "has a leg to stand on" if she pushes the issue and what if any objections management can bring up. You can tell I'm a salesman......always looking for the ways to overcome the objection before they come up. I like to have an answer and explanation before the other person can think up the question or objection. |
35-40 hrs a week

I think here, "call center" hours are considered full time at 37.5 hours? but not sure about other jobs...
|
This probably doesn't help much, but in the federal government "full time" is 37.5 hours a week.
8 hours a day x 5 days.. minus .5hrs per day for lunch ;) |
in manitoba 30 hours or more per week is classified as full time .........
|
my boss considers no one full time! but that's just a coffee shop...i've worked more then 49 hrs in a week before and never seen overtime. but i really don't care about the extra $$$ - not worth fighting for...i slack off too much to care.
