check out this cement filled van just west of Calgary
You wouldn't believe me if I were to tell you.. so I drove out there with the (piece of crap) camera to snap a few shots.
Well.. the storey behind the pics is that in the 1960's-1970's.. the rancher (which still lives on the land that the van is on) was married at one point... in time the marriage was on the rocks so the lady decided to pack up her things and go. They argued about which car she was to take but finally argued in favor of her taking the Volkswagen van. Well he talked her into staying the night.. since he planned on keeping the van. I guess he thought... "well if I can't have it then neither can you" so that night he filled the van with cement. In the morning.. she woke up and brought her stuff down to the shed where the van was stored... only to find it one big block that was then sunk right into the ground. Now to this day the van still stays there (it probably wieghs 10 tonnes now.. its not driving anywhere!) but it was a pretty cool storey.. I heard it from a tour director that I was working with one day.
I thought I'd post it here.. and see what you think.
the van is a 1950's-1960's Volkswagen (I dont know much else.. sorry)
The ranch is about 10 minutes west of Calgary.. right on the N.E. corner of the number 1 to cochrane highway turnoff. Here is a pic
Sorry... I forgot to add.. Please: as a disclaimer... do NOT go check this out in person. There is a barbed wire fence and numerous signs saying "DO NOT TRESPASS"
I did.. but just to snap these shots for everybody to see. The ranch is right above.. whereas the highway and the shed where this van is.. is in full view. The shed is aways on a hill.. and is quite a walk. So for safety sake.. and respect for the rancher and his property.. please dont trespass.. if you bring binoculars.. you can see it from the highway.. but dont go check it out in person like I did.. since that is a felony offence.
Besides.. I tore my pants on the barbwire and got a bad rash from some crazy plant that I brushed past on my way to this shed.
