Tascam CD160, or CDX1500. I have first hand experience with the cd160.. plays everything and seems to be holding up well.. What is it that you don't like about the denon?

I'm not sure how well nad's would stand up to the road though.. they're better known as higher end home components.

re: denon dn-2000f mk II.
this is a two piece rack mountable unit. The controller unit is fine. The drive unit has had lots of problems - I believe mostly due to transit and not being able to lock the drives down: early on the drives would stick closed or wouldn't close all the way - like the tray was out of alignment with the hole in the faceplate. Later on the tray faceplate detached itself. Recently 1 of the drives has quit completely. The unit only has about 100 hours on it since I bought it mint but used.

Hey
Seeing that I'm a mobile dj, And work with this stuff all the time.
When on the road, all your gear takes a beating and gets the scuffs. So you want to say with a high end unit like denon, numark ect......

Here is 2 links to some used - good priced gear.
and there both up near you.

www.wallsound-lighting.com/sales_used.html#tapedecks

Also note that the Denon DN-2000F is one of there vary old first lines. Maybe look at the Denon DN-2000F MKIII Dual CD Player.

I had a Denon, but switch to Numark.

I'm pretty familiar with the Denon line. I go back as far as their original DJ CD player the DN-4000. The DN-2000 is a decent unit for the most part. I think you bought a lemon. If your going rack mountable then you may want to go with the MkIII model (as mentioned) or step up to the higher end units. I'd also look into Pioneer's line up. They have a dual rack player which is quite good as well. The Tascam units are top notch.

I don't like the Numark, Gemini, etc units. They don't seem to be built as well as the other units. The other thing you may want to consider that even if the Denon or Pioneer break. You should have no trouble getting it serviced unlike the other brands.

I have to agree about the numark and gemini stuff.. It's lower grade DJ gear. I wouldnt mind it in a permanent install, but for a moving rig, I'd steer clear.

I've used:
numark CDN22MKIII
numark CD MIX-2
Denon DN-2600F

Of the three i like the mix-2 the best, I've never had any problems with it. I found the Denon to be really nice, but it did have a tendency to skip with some larger crowds. and the MKIII is really nice if you want a rack mount player. Just enought features, almost never skips, but does have trouble playing some brands of cd-rw.

All three units have been very reliable, and have surrived even the worst of weather and roads in my vehicle
